We all know that the Plaza Inn makes some of the best friend chicken around but what would make it better? Why waffles of course! So, for a limited time, the Plaza Inn is serving chicken and waffles everyday from 12 Noon until 3 PM! Hopefully this proves popular enough to become a permanent addition to the menu! The Newly Refurbished Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant

Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant underwent a complete refurbishment earlier this year.

The beautiful new entrance takes you to the Hostess stand. No longer do you have to wait in their old switch back queue. You simply check in and if there is a wait they will ask for a cell phone number and they will text you when your table is ready. So your wait is exploring the California Marketplace.

If you do want to wait inside the restaurant there is a spacious lobby area.

There is now a full service bar. They have some wonderful boysenberry-infused cocktails.

Two of your boysenberry options are a draft boysenberry beer and a boysenberry lemon drop. They also offer a boysenberry mojito.

The biscuits are still served fresh and warm.

You get your own butter and boysenberry jelly.

The chicken noodle soup is still one of the best ever. And one can never go wrong with some salad as well.

The Mrs. Knott's Famous Friend Chicken Dinner with mashed potatoes and corn. Now I used to think that Mrs. Knott's chicken was one of the best on the planet but I don't know if it has been years of eating the flavorful and juicy chicken at the Plaza Inn at Disneyland but there is a lack of flavor on Mrs. Knott's chicken. The chicken here is still moist and juicy but the lack of flavor made me sad.

And what else would you finish dinner off with than a slice of boysenberry pie?

A wonderful refurbishment of the Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant is sadly held back by the flavorless chicken. Other than that, the service, the ambiance and the rest of the food is authentically homemade. Maybe I will try something other than the fried chicken on my next visit.

Sasaki Time's Top 15 Disneyland and DCA Food Items You Need to Eat Right Now!

Here are my Top 15 Disneyland and Disney California Adventure food items that you need to try if you haven't already!

15. The world famous clam chowder bowls come in at number 15! There is nothing better than the fresh baked sourdough bowls from the Boudin Bakery in DCA! The clam chowder is fantastic and that bread is even better if you let some of that chowder get absorbed into the bread! Remember to get some butter so you can also butter your bread if you aren't full!

14. Number 14 is the fantastic chili cone queso from the Cozy Cone Motel in Cars Land! I love chili and since it is one of Walt's favorites, it's fitting that chili make it on the list! The beef chili, cheese and corn chips in the bread cone is a perfect meal on the go! We will be returning to this same cone a few times!

13. Coming in at lucky number 13 is the Oswald Sundae in a souvenir "Mickey Pants" from Clarabelle's on Buena Vista Street. You get three scoops of ice cream covered in whipped cream, chocolate chips and a cherry on top! Oswald's ears are made up of two chocolate covered bananas! Plus, you get to keep the "Mickey Pants" sink dish!

12. Coming in at number 12 is what I consider the best deal in the parks when it comes to eating and those of you with a hearty appetite like myself. The Big Thunder Ranch BBQ is all you can eat for a great price! Lunch is only $23.99 a person and you get beans, chicken, ribs, cornbread, corn on the cob wheels and coleslaw!

11. Mickey shaped beignets are next! A powdered sugar covered bit of heaven if you ask me! They are coming out warm and go great with a mint julep or a cup of coffee! You will find these in New Orleans Square at the Mint Julep Bar!

10. The Mickey waffle from the Carnation Cafe comes in at Number 10! A delicious way to start the day! Pair it with a side of bacon or sausage and you have a wonderful breakfast right in the middle of Main Street U.S.A.!

9. We have come back to the Cozy Cone in Cars Land with the chorizo and egg cone! Only served for breakfast this delicious mix of chorizo, scrambled eggs and pico de gallo is a handy and hearty way to get your morning going down Route 66!

8. Dole Whip from Adventureland comes in at Number 8! This cool tasty pineapple treat is perfect on a hot day or any day! Look at that perfect swirl! Almost too perfect to eat, like I said almost!

7. Coming in next on the countdown is the butcher's plate from The Carthay Circle Lounge on Buena Vista Street. The plate features various cheeses, salamis, capicola, seasonal fruits and nuts. You also get some toasted bread. A perfect snack with some drinks and a good friend or two while listening to the light jazz in the lounge area. This is my favorite place to take a break from the park while still being inside the park.

6. Coming in at Number 6 is the best chicken in town! The broasted chicken at The Plaza Inn is one of my favorite meals in the entire resort! The chicken is tasty and moist, the mashed potatoes are thick and made from scratch and the seasonal vegetables are perfect! You can't even see the biscuit that comes with the meal! So much good food that you won't go hungry after this!

5. Number 5 is the lobster nachos at the Cove Bar in Paradise Pier! This massive plate begs to be shared! Corn tortilla chips, smothered in cheese, beans, lobster, salsa, mild peppers, and cilantro make for a perfect snack with a bunch of friends or a great meal for one! Enjoy with a beer or a cocktail and feel as if you were at the beach!

4. Number 4 we head back for the last time to the Cozy Cone in Cars Land for the bacon and mac and cheese cone! Thick mac and cheese with diced bacon on top make for a hearty meal!

3. Number 3 is the fried pickle appetizer at the Carnation Cafe on Main Street U.S.A.! These panko fried pickles are one of my favorites and I always get these when I dine here! How they can deep fry something and keep that pickle nice and crisp I will never know!

2. We don't have to go very far for Number 2 because it is the meatloaf at the Carnation Cafe! I love meatloaf and this one does not disappoint! A huge thick slab of moist meatloaf covered in gravy served with mashed potatoes, vegetables and a roll with butter makes me feel at home! Comfort food and it's very best!

1. And here we are at my Number 1 favorite food items from the parks and it is the Matterhorn macaroon from the Jolly Holiday Bakery! I always take this silly photo of the macaroon with the actual Matterhorn attraction! See how much they look alike? The awesome shape of the macaroon does not compare with the amazing amount of coconut this treat contains!

Well there you have it! My Top 15 Food Items from both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure that You Need To Try Right Now! Hope it made you hungry! Let's go to the park and eat!

Restaurant Review: Roscoe's Chicken 'N Waffles in Anaheim

After months and months of eager anticipation, Roscoe's Chicken 'n Waffles has finally opened in Anaheim! The only Roscoe's in Orange County, is open for business! For people that are long-time fans such as myself or for those who are new to the Roscoe's experience let's take a look at the Anaheim location!
You can't beat a better location than right down the street from Disneyland and the Anaheim Convention Center! Business has been really good thus far and parking is at a premium!
How much of a premium you ask? Well, they are even using overflow parking at a nearby closed business.
Inside you will find several large neon signs like the one above!
So many delicious options but my favorite is the Herb's Special #3! You can never go wrong with four pieces of fried chicken and two massive waffles!
The meal is so big that you have to serve it on two plates! The fried chicken is fantastic as ever! The skin is crisp and flavorful, the meat is moist and tender! I also add some of the Red Rooster Hot Sauce to the chicken to put it over the top! Then you make your way to the waffles and all that butter and sugarcane syrup! The waffles are some of my favorite ever! There is a hint of vanilla and cinnamon I believe in the batter. The combination of the saltiness of the fried chicken and the sweetness of the waffles make for a perfect combination!
Get a closer look at that fried chicken! Doesn't that look delicious?
And here is a closer look at the waffles! Who's hungry?
The first Orange County Roscoe's is a welcomed addition to the Anaheim area. The service is fantastic and the food came out in literally a few minutes after we had ordered! If you go, arrive early or find a long wait and a lack of parking spaces. Now excuse me as I head back to get more chicken and waffles!

Restaurant Review: Mrs. Bea's Louisiana Chicken and Waffles

Hey everybody! It's time for another restaurant review! This time I am at Mrs. Bea's Louisiana Chicken and Waffles! I love chicken and waffles!
The decor is simple and I am a fan of simple.
There is more than just chicken and waffles but that's all I am focusing on this time. Oh and everything is cooked fresh so it will take a little of time to get it out to you, but trust me it is worth the wait!
The fried chicken tastes more like a broasted chicken. The skin isn't crunchy but soft and the chicken itself is juicy and moist. And if you might be worried that a place with the name Louisiana in it might mean that the chicken is spicy, it's not but there is hot sauce if you need it!
Now to the waffle! The waffle is soft but don't think for a minute that the butter and syrup will make it soggy. The waffle holds up nicely and there is a nice taste of cinnamon with each bite as well. A great waffle!
I also got a side of their mac n cheese. The cheese blend is a nice american, cheddar and swiss blend. The dish is nice and gooey with cheese. Just a wonderful mac n cheese and also a favorite with the wait staff.

A great restaurant with great service makes this a place I can't wait to come back and visit again!

Super Bowl Sunday Recipes: Fried Chicken

Ingredients

yield: serves 4, active time 45 minutes, total time 45 minutes plus 12 hours marinating time
  • For the buttermilk marinade:
  • 1 quart (4 cups) buttermilk
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Tabasco sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  •
  • For the chicken:
  • 2 chickens (2 pounds each—you don’t want huge chickens for this), cut up into pieces
  • 2 quarts corn oil
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons paprika
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons ground celery seed
  • 4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper

Procedures

  1. To make the buttermilk marinade: In a large mixing bowl, whisk the buttermilk together with the cayenne, Old Bay, salt, pepper, Tabasco, and honey.

  2. Put the chicken pieces in the mixing bowl and submerge them in the buttermilk marinade. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, put it in the fridge, and let the chicken marinate for at least 12 hours.

  3. To bread and fry the chicken: Pull the chicken out of the fridge and let it come up to room temperature, still in the marinade (this will take about 45 minutes).

  4. Preheat the oven to 200°F.

  5. Heat the oil in a deep pot or a deep-fryer over high heat. The oil should be 3 inches deep, and it should be so hot that it starts popping (about 350°F). A good rule of thumb: if you drop a pinch of flour into the oil and it fries up immediately, you’re good to go.

  6. While the oil is heating, combine the paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, Old Bay, cayenne pepper, celery seed, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl. Mix things around with your hands so everything is distributed evenly. Pour half of the mixture into a small bowl and set it aside.

  7. Add the remaining half of the spice mix to flour to the large bowl and mix well.

  8. When the oil is hot, pull a piece of chicken out of the marinade. Put it right into the dredging flour bowl and heap flour on top of it; flip it around until the chicken is completely coated. Do the same with each piece until there’s no more space in the bowl.

  9. Pick up a piece of chicken, give it a light shake (just enough to get rid of the really loose bits of flour), and use your hands or a pair of tongs to drop it into the fry pot. Do the same with the rest of the chicken pieces. (You will definitely need to fry your chicken in batches, unless you’ve got some really big bowls and pots.)

  10. Let the chicken fry for about 8 minutes, until it’s golden brown. Pull the chicken pieces out of the fryer with tongs and put them on a rack set on a baking sheet. Sprinkle each piece of chicken with the seasoning mixture, using the tongs to turn the piece so it’s coated on all sides.

  11. Put the baking sheet in the oven. The chicken pieces should rest in the oven for at least 10 minutes, so that the cooking process finishes. Meanwhile, fry up the next batch of chicken.

  12. Hold the fried chicken in the oven until all the pieces are fried and rested and you’re ready to serve it up. Then pile the chicken on a big plate, put it in the center of the table with biscuits, collards, and slaw, and let everybody start grabbing pieces. I guarantee it will disappear fast.
