“HOCUS POCUS 2” CAST BETTE MIDLER, SARAH JESSICA PARKER AND KATHY NAJIMY SET TO CONJURE UP MORE CHILLS, LAUGHS AND MAYHEM IN 2022

BURBANK, Calif. (May 20, 2021) – Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles as the delightfully wicked Sanderson Sisters in the live-action comedy “Hocus Pocus 2,” the spooky sequel to Disney’s 1993 Halloween cult classic “Hocus Pocus.” The film will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2022.

Singer/actress Bette Midler (“The First Wives Club,” “Beaches”) returns as Winifred Sanderson, with Sarah Jessica Parker (“Sex and the City”) and Kathy Najimy (“Sister Act”) back as her sisters, Sarah and Mary, respectively. In “Hocus Pocus 2,” three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world.

“Hocus Pocus 2” will begin production this fall under the direction of Anne Fletcher (“The Proposal,” “27 Dresses”), who is taking over directing responsibilities from her friend and colleague Adam Shankman (“Hairspray,” “The Wedding Planner”), with Lynn Harris (“The Shallows”) serving as producer. Shankman is currently in production on “Disenchanted” for the studio, which he is directing, but will remain on this project as an executive producer along with Ralph Winter (“Adrift”) and David Kirschner (“Curse of Chucky”). Steven Haft (“Tigerland”) is co-producer.

Fletcher and Shankman first met in 1990 when they were both dancers for the Academy Awards® broadcast. Shankman went on to hire her as his assistant choreographer, working together on over 100 different jobs. Fletcher’s first directing gig was in 2006 on “Step Up,” which Shankman produced.

“As heartbroken as I am that I won’t be able to direct my friends Bette, Sarah Jessica and Kathy in what is sure to be nothing short of a major event for Disney+ due to scheduling conflicts, I couldn’t be more pleased to be handing over the reins to Anne, who has brought so much laughter and joy into people’s lives with her previous work,” says executive producer Adam Shankman. “I am still grateful and proud to help shepherd this ingenious project as executive producer alongside producer Lynn Harris, whom I have loved and admired as a colleague and friend since she helped get me the job choreographing ‘Boogie Nights.’”

“Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film,” says director Anne Fletcher. “I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Raya and The Last Dragon Blu-Ray Review

In the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when sinister monsters known as the Druun threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, those same monsters have returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the last dragon in order to finally stop the Druun for good. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than dragon magic to save the world—it’s going to take trust as well.

Video Quality:

The 1080p MPEG-AVC 2.39:1 aspect ration is stunning. Colors are accurate and bright but this causes the black levels to be a lighter shade of black and not a deep and inky black. The details however are stunning from textures of clothing, to hair and the water look extremely realistic. As always, another first-rate video transfer from Disney!

Audio Quality:

There is a 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio Track here. The dialogue takes center stage and is crisp and clear. The score from James Newton Howard plays dynamically across the channels. Sound effects and atmospheric sounds are subtle but overall this is a well done audio mix.

Bonus Features:

  • An Introduction to “Us Again” – Director Zach Parrish takes you behind the scenes of the Walt Disney Animation Studios short.
  • “Us Again” – An elderly man and his young-at-heart wife rekindle their passion for life on one magical night.
  • Taste of Raya – Dine along with Kelly Marie Tran and the film’s creative team--virtually--over a Southeast Asian menu inspired by the countries that influenced the film as they discuss their experiences creating the world of Kumandra.
  • Raya: Bringing it Home – When the global pandemic of 2020 hit, production of “Raya and the Last Dragon” moved to the houses of over 450 people. We open a window into their lives and learn how they overcame massive obstacles to make an animated feature from home.
  • Martial Artists – Get a kick out of learning about the martial art forms and weapons used in the film as co-screenwriter Qui Nguyen and visual anthropologist Dr. S. Steve Arounsack share the inspiration behind the film’s action-packed elements.
  • We are Kumandra – Meet members of the Southeast Asia Story Trust and discover the cultural influences that inspired the film...and how important this representation in a Disney animated film is to the people of the region.
  • Outtakes – Step into the homes and behind the mics of the cast of “Raya and the Last Dragon” as they experience voice-over sessions in closets and shaky internet connections, which made recording this film unlike any other.
  • Fun Facts & Easter Eggs – Take a look at some of the hidden surprises and behind-the-scenes secrets of “Raya and the Last Dragon.”
  • The Story Behind the Storyboard with John Ripa – Co-Director John Ripa invites you to get an inside look at his thought process as he pitches a storyboard sequence from the film and talks about his amazing career with Disney Animation.
  • Deleted Scenes:
    • Introduction – Head of Story Fawn Veerasunthorn introduces deleted scenes from “Raya and the Last Dragon.”
    • The Bridge – Raya confronts an early version of the Druun in this deleted storyboard sequence.
    • Escaping Namaari – See an early version sequence of an introduction to Namaari as an adult.
    • Dragon Blade – Discover an early version of Raya’s sword, when it used to have magical powers.
    • Meet Boun – Meet an early version of Boun before he was a chef and shrimp boat captain.
    • The Heart of the Dragon – Co-Director John Ripa introduces a deleted scene which brought the theme of hope into the film.

Overall:

Raya and The Last Dragon is a wonderful action-adventure fantasy film filled with humor and heart. A satisfying audio mix combined with a practically perfect video transfer along with some quality bonus material makes this blu-ray a must have to your collection.

Raya and the Last Dragon hits stores on blu-ray on May 18th.

SPEED for the First Time in 4K Ultra HD Review

Keanu Reeves stars as a bomb squad officer who is sent to diffuse a bomb that a crazed-man with a grudge (Dennis Hopper) has planted on a city bus. One of the passengers (Sandra Bullock) finds themselves driving the bus and must keep the bus speeding through the streets of Los Angeles at more than 50 miles per hour – or the bomb will explode. A high-octane chase of suspense, nonstop action and surprise twists, “Speed” is full of pulse-pounding thrills that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Video Quality:

The 4K UHD presentation makes Speed look like it is straight out of the theaters and not looking a day older than it's 1994 debut. Close-ups showcase fantastic facial definition and you can see the wear and tear on the bus. The video presentation also shines in the natural light as the spectrum of colors cannot be matched by the blu-ray.

Audio Quality:

The audio is the same DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack found on the blu-ray. It still sounds fantastic as ever! The score by Mark Mancina is large and booming! Dialogue is crisp and clear. Subtle effects fill the rear channels. This is still one of my favorite blu-ray mixes and honestly not much could have been added here.

Bonus Features:

The UHD only adds the legacy commentaries but the Blu-Ray includes a lot of "new" extras, at least new to Blu-Ray.

UHD

  • Audio Commentary by Jan de Bont
  • Audio Commentary by Graham Yost and Mark Gordon
Blu-Ray
  • NEW! Action Sequences
    • Bus Jump
    • Metrorail Crash
  • NEW! Inside Speed
    • On Location
    • Stunts
    • Visual Effects
    • HBO First Look: The Making of Speed
  • NEW! Extended Scenes
    • Jack Shoots Payne in the Neck
    • Payne Lives/Cops Party
    • Annie’s Job
    • After Helen’s Death
    • Ray’s Crime
    • Cargo Jet Explosion: The Airline Version
  • Speed Music Video by Billy Idol

Overall:

The 4K UHD presentation couldn't be better! The rich colors, the loseless 5.1 audio track is still superb and lots of new extras not on the original Fox release make this a must add to your collection!

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE SET TO PERFORM NEW ORIGINAL SONG “CALL ME CRUELLA” IN DISNEY’S “CRUELLA”

Listen to the Official Cruella Playlist, with signature hits featured in the film here

BURBANK, CA – (May 10, 2021) -- Multi-platinum and global award-winning artist Florence + The Machine, is set to perform a new original song, “Call me Cruella,” in Disney’s all-new live action film “Cruella.”  “Call me Cruella” will be featured in the film and on the original motion picture soundtrack and the original score album. Both albums, from Walt Disney Records, will be available on May 21. Experience the film in theaters or order it on Disney+ with Premier Access for a one-time additional fee on May 28.

On the “Call me Cruella” collaboration, Florence said, “Some of the first songs I ever learned how to sing were Disney songs. And the villains often got the best numbers. So to help create and perform a song for ‘Cruella’ is the fulfillment of a long held childhood dream. I’m so grateful to Nicholas Britell and Disney for allowing me so much creative freedom, and for trusting me with Cruella’s beautiful madness.”

Welch is the Grammy nominated songwriter and bandleader of Florence + The Machine. Her four critically acclaimed studio albums have sold millions of copies worldwide, with 3 top 10 albums in the US.  In addition to the Brit Album of Year Award for her 2009 debut Lungs, 2015's How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, topped the charts in the UK and US.   Florence went on to win the Ivor Novello International Achievement Award for songwriting.  Most recently, Florence made her acting debut in a live TV theatrical broadcast for the HBO and Sky Atlantic series "The Third Day."

Commenting on the song and score, Britell said, "I am a massive fan of Florence’s, so it was a true joy to collaborate with her on Call me Cruella. With both this song and the Cruella score itself, the goal was to really embrace the raw rock aesthetic of 60’s and 70’s London. We recorded everything using all vintage gear and analog tape at Abbey Road and AIR Studios in London, melding orchestral elements with electric guitars and basses, organs, keyboards, and drums."

Twice Academy Award®-nominated and EMMY winning composer and pianist Nicholas Britell scores feature in some of the most acclaimed film projects in recent history, including “If Beale Street Could Talk” “Vice,” “Moonlight,” “The Big Short” and most recently “The King.”  For television, Britell has written the score for Jenkins’ “The Underground Railroad” and also scores the HBO series “Succession,” winning an Emmy® for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme. He is currently scoring the third season of “Succession” and Adam McKay’s “Don’t Look Up.”

Academy Award® winner Emma Stone (“La La Land”) stars in Disney’s “Cruella,” an all-new live action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. “Cruella,” which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson (“Howards End,” “Sense and Sensibility”). But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.

"Cruella" stars Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Mark Strong. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie, with screenplay by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, story by Aline Brosh McKenna and Kelly Marcel & Steve Zissis, based upon the novel “The One Hundred and One Dalmatians” by Dodie Smith. “Cruella” is produced by Andrew Gunn, Marc Platt and Kristin Burr, p.g.a., with Emma Stone, Michelle Wright, Jared LeBoff and Glenn Close serving as executive producers.
