Digital Review: Mickey & Friends 10 Classic Shorts - Volume 2

The second volume of classic Disney animated shorts has arrived as Walt Disney Animation Studios continues to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of The Walt Disney Company. Mickey & Friends 10 Classic Shorts - Volume 2 is now available on digital and on Blu-Ray and DVD June 27th.

Animated Shorts Included in this release:

The Band Concert

Pluto’s Sweater

Mickey’s Trailer

Pluto and the Gopher

Mr. Duck Steps Out

Lonesome Ghosts

Boat Builders

Tugboat Mickey

Winter Storage

Pluto’s Party

The shorts here are presented in full frame (1:33:1). Each short has been fully restored in high definition and they all look amazing. The audio is a 2.0 Dolby Digital stereo mix which is an upgrade from the original mono tracks.

Just as in the previous volume, the shorts play out more like a package feature with interstitials to play between each short. Mickey and the gang are watching a slideshow and looking back upon ten of their favorite memories.

Mickey & Friends 10 Classic Shorts - Volume 2 is a wonderful way to celebrate Disney's rich animation history as part of the 100th Anniversary of the company this year. It is a fun way to showcase some of the gang's most iconic animated shorts and hopefully leads the way to move fun volumes throughout the year.

Blu-Ray Review: Mickey, Donald and Goofy - The Three Musketeers 10th Anniversary Edition

Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers is geared for the younger set and is a cute movie produced by the folks at DisneyToon Studios.

Mickey, Donald and Goofy are best friends and also janitors with dreams of becoming Musketeers. But the evil plans of Peg-Leg Pete, captain of the Musketeers and his lieutenant Clarabelle use them in a plot to overthrow Princess Minnie. Mickey, Donald and Goofy must work together to save the day.

Video Quality:

Another fine effort by Disney with a beautiful 1080p/AVC-encoded video presentation. Colors are bright and details are crisp. There is nothing really here to criticize. The animations is nice and sharp, backgrounds look fantastic, an exceptional transfer.

Audio Quality:

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track is decent. While there is nothing wrong with the mix, the soundfield just feels flat and not dynamic. It does the job it is meant to do. Dialogue is clear, there is a bit more power when it comes to the action scenes, and the rear channels create an involving environment,

Bonus Features:
  • Cast Commentary (SD, 5 minutes): Oddly enough there is this random scene-specific commentary instead of a film commentary. While it includes Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Pete, it would have been really cool to have all the characters give the full movie commentary.
  • Deleted Scenes (SD, 5 minutes): DisneyToon Studios Vice President Brian Snedeker provides commentary on these unfinished, storyboarded deleted scenes.
  • Get the Scoop (SD, 10 minutes): A Three Musketeers behind-the-scenes featurette.
  • Disney Song Selection (HD, 7 minutes): Five songs to sing along karaoke style.
  • Get Up and Dance (HD, 2 minutes): A dance-along for your kids.
  • Sing-Along (HD): Hidden within the Disney Song Selection is a Sing-Along track so everyone can sing-along.

Conclusion:

Excellent video and audio presentation with some interesting bonus features make this a film to add to your Disney collection.

Take a look at the Disney Character Statues around The Partners Statue at Disneyland

Taking some photos of each of the statues around The Partners Statue in the hub of Disneyland.

Pinocchio and Jiminy look perfect with The Matterhorn behind them.
Dumbo and Timothy look like they want to fly into Tomorrowland.
Minnie has dreams of the being a princess one day, especially with Sleeping Beauty Castle in the background.
Donald Duck looks like he has an egg or a white sphere in his hand like he is ready to perform magic in front of the castle.
Chip and Dale came down from their tree to greet the folks.
The White Rabbit is late as he heads out of Frontierland for a very important date.
Goofy looks as if he is lost or thinking deep thoughts.
Pluto looks as happy as ever and a perfect way to end this photo tour of the statues around The Partners Statue in Disneyland.

Hope you enjoyed the photos! If there is anything you want to see I am happy to head to the park to take those photos for you and to share stories and the history.

Disneyland Trip Report: March 8, 2014 - Big Thunder, Starbucks, Flowers and Steampunk!

Time to bring you another Trip Report to Disneyland! Check out the new Starbucks that is getting ready to open in Downtown Disney. It is located next to the west entrance of the World of Disney Store. It opens March 10th!
They built a lovely patio space! This is going to be one packed patio!
But the real reason to be here today is to go ride the massively refurbished Big Thunder Mountain Railroad! So, off to Frontierland we go!
The beautiful mountain range is back! The mountain has never looked more vibrant!
One of my favorite attractions in the park and my first coaster that I ever went on as a kid!
Such a great day to be in Disneyland!
Oh I can't wait to go on!
Here comes a train! Hold on to your hats and glasses everybody!

Thunder is only open for Cast Members and their friends and family. I went last night as well as early this morning. Since this is a preview there was no photography allowed on the ride itself and you will get no spoilers from me! But I will tell you that the track has been completely replaced and the ride is as smooth as butter! It is so smooth that it actually feels like it is going faster than ever! Lots of brand new or replaced items throughout the entire attraction as well as one awesome finale on the last lift hill! As an FYI, the finale effects look much better at night!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad re-opens back to the public on March 17th!
It was a very quiet day. Even the train seemed to be at peace.
I love the variety of colors to be found here! Everything looks brand new, oh wait, it's because everything is brand new!
The mining town of Big Thunder has even been completely rebuilt from the ground up!
With having been on Big Thunder way too many times to count it was time to enjoy the unusual quietness of the park on a Saturday morning. Time to take in some details!
The smallest details add to the experience whether you notice them or not.
The blue flowers here just pop!
I love how it feels like you are no longer in Disneyland.
Taking a look at the back side of the mountain range.
Once again it's about the details that make everything feel just right.
Spring is here! I had to stop and take some photos of the flowers!
I love the colors on this one!
Too many perfect flowers to take photos of!
Before I headed out I took a look at the Steampunk exhibit at The Disneyland Gallery on Main Street. Goofy is hard at work trying to figure out how to get the train going.
Daisy Duck reminds me of The Rocketeer for some reason.
Donald Duck looks so determined here on his steampunk Jungle Cruise boat.
I love the look on Donald's face here!
Mickey looks rather dapper here.
One of my favorite vehicles in any Disney movie, the Nautilus, from 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.
A model of an Aquatopia vehicle from Tokyo DisneySea.
A model of one of the boats that sits in the water in Tokyo DisneySea.
A model of one of the vehicles for the Journey to The Center of The Earth attraction in Tokyo DisneySea.

The exhibit also features some great artwork of attractions and lands that have been built as well as some that have never come to be.
As you can see this trip report has come to an end! Hope you enjoyed the quick tour! Please comment and let me know what else you would like to see from Disneyland or Disney California Adventure!
