Buena Vista Street History: Julius Katz & Sons Appliance Store, 2705 Buena Vista St.

Origins of name: Julius Katz refers to Julius the Cat, an animated cat who accompanied the live-action Alice character in Disney's silent "Alice in Cartoonland" shorts of the 1920s.
Fictional back story: Julius Katz, owner of a Buena Vista Street watch and radio repair store, had sons who wanted to expand the family business. In 1911, they founded Julius Katz & Sons one door down from their father's store. The proprietors insist, "We will not be undersold! You will not be oversold! Guaranteed!"
Street address: The "05" in the address number refers to 1905, the year a young Walt Disney moved with his parents from his hometown of Chicago to Marceline, Mo. The quaint downtown of Marceline would serve as Walt Disney's direct inspiration for Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland.
What it really sells: Home décor and seasonal merchandise, including kitchen gadgets, dinnerware, hand towels and aprons
