MINDY KALING JOINS THE CAST OF DISNEY+ ORIGINAL SERIES ‘MONSTERS AT WORK’ FROM DISNEY TELEVISION ANIMATION

 

BURBANK, Calif. (March 17,  2021) -- Mindy Kaling has joined the cast of Disney+'s highly anticipated animated series "Monsters At Work." Kaling will voice the role of Val Little, an enthusiastic member of the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (aka "MIFT"). Additionally, Bonnie Hunt will reprise her role as Ms. Flint, who was formerly in charge of training new Scarers at Monsters, Inc., but will now manage the department responsible for recruiting and training the funniest monsters to become Jokesters. "Monsters At Work" will begin streaming Friday, July 2, exclusively on Disney+.

 

Ben Feldman stars as the voice of Tylor Tuskmon in the series, which introduces new monster characters alongside returning favorites, including Mike Wazowski and James P. "Sulley" Sullivan, who will again be voiced by renowned actors Billy Crystal and John Goodman. Starring alongside Feldman and Kaling as part of the MIFT crew is Henry Winkler ("Happy Days") as Fritz, the scatterbrained boss; Lucas Neff ("Raising Hope") as Duncan, an opportunistic plumber; and Alanna Ubach ("Coco") as Cutter, the officious rule follower. 

"Monsters At Work" takes place the day after the Monsters, Incorporated power plant started harvesting the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis, thanks to Mike and Sulley's discovery that laughter generates ten times more energy than screams. It follows the story of Tylor Tuskmon, an eager young monster who graduated top of his class at Monsters University and always dreamed of becoming a Scarer until he lands a job at Monsters, Incorporated, and discovers that scaring is out and laughter is in. After Tylor is temporarily reassigned to the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (MIFT), he must work alongside a misfit bunch of mechanics while setting his sights on becoming a Jokester.

In addition to Crystal, Goodman and Hunt, returning cast members from the original movies include John Ratzenberger as Yeti and Tylor's dad, Bernard, Jennifer Tilly as Celia Mae and Bob Peterson as Roze, twin sister to his original "Monsters, Inc." character, Roz. Voicing additional characters are Stephen Stanton ("Star Wars Resistance") as Smitty and Needleman, the bumbling custodial team at Monsters, Inc., and Aisha Tyler ("Archer") as Tylor's mom, Millie Tuskmon.

 

Produced by Disney Television Animation, the series was developed and is executive produced by Disney animation veteran Bobs Gannaway ("Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," "Planes: Fire & Rescue"). Academy Award-nominated Sean Lurie ("Inner Workings") is producer, and Kat Good ("Big Hero 6 The Series") and Steve Anderson ("Meet the Robinsons") serve as supervising directors. The late Rob Gibbs ("Monsters, Inc.") also served as director on some of the earlier episodes.

What You’ll Need

• Regular paper or cardstock
• Scissors
• Glue or double-sided tape

How To Make It

1. Print the template on regular paper or cardstock and cut out the pieces. Make folds along all dashed lines.
2. Beginning with the head, use glue or double-sided tape to secure the A tab to the back of the piece next to it. Continue this pattern with the remaining tabs in alphabetical order. Close the top of the head like a lid and secure it to the Q tabs. Close the bottom of the head with the R tabs to complete the shape.
3. Fold each horn in half along the center dashed line and secure so the design is two-sided. Butterfly the tabs outward and use them to attach the horns to the top of Mike’s head.
4. Fold each arm in half along the center dashed line and secure so the design is two-sided. Butterfly the tabs outward and use them to attach the arms to the sides of the body.
5. Fold each leg in half along the center dashed line and secure so the design is two-sided. Butterfly the tabs outward and use them to attach the legs to the bottom of the body. Fold the paper at the dashed line at his knees away from you. Now you can place Mike on a table or shelf with his legs dangling over the edge.

What You’ll Need

• Regular paper or cardstock
• Scissors
• Glue or double-sided tape

How To Make It

1. Print the template on regular paper or cardstock and cut out the pieces.
2. Starting with the body, cut along the three dark lines of the triangular tabs located at the bottom of the body. Fold the paper at the dashed lines away from you. Using glue or double-sided tape, secure the A tab located near the top of the body to the back of the piece next to it. Next, secure the A tab located near the bottom of the body to the back of the piece next to it. Continue this pattern with the remaining B and C tabs. Complete the shape with the D tabs.
3. For the head, fold the paper at the dashed lines away from you. Beginning with the left side of the head, secure the E tab to the back of the piece directly below it. Secure the F tab to the back of the side of the head. Secure the G tab to the back of the piece next to it. Repeat this pattern with the E, F, and G tabs on the right side of the head. Slide the H tab into the opening at the top of the body and secure it with glue.
4. To put the right leg together, you will need the following three pieces: Outer Panel, Inner Panel, and Front Leg. Fold the paper at the second horizontal dashed line on the Front Leg toward you. Fold the paper at all other dashed lines away from you.
5. Secure tabs M-P on the Front Leg to the back of the corresponding areas on the Inner Panel.
6. Attach the Outer Panel to the Front Leg using tabs I-L on the Front Leg. The front, left, and right sides of the leg are now complete.
7. To complete the back of the leg, secure the R tab to the inside of the Inner Panel and the S tab to the inside of the Outer Panel making sure it goes over the T tab. Secure the T tab to finish the leg.
8. Repeat steps 4-7 for the left leg.
9. Make sure the claws are pointing outward on each foot. Attach the legs to the inside of the body using the three Q tabs on each leg.
10. Fold the spine in half along the center dashed line and secure so the design is two-sided. Do not glue the tabs together. Instead, butterfly the tabs outward and attach them to the light colored area on his back labeled “spine.”
11. Fold the tail in half along the center dashed line and secure so the design is two-sided. Do not glue the tabs together. Instead, butterfly the tabs outward and attach them to the area on his back labeled “tail.”
12. Fold Sulley’s right arm in half along the center dashed line and secure so the design is two-sided. Fold the O tab away from you and secure it to the area on the body labeled “O.” Fold the left arm in half along the center dashed line and secure so the design is two-sided. Fold the P tab away from you and secure it to the area on the body labeled “P.”
13. Fold each horn in half and secure so the design is two-sided. Fold the tabs back and use them to attach the horns to the sides of his head.

How to make it

1. Print the template on regular paper or cardstock and cut out the pieces.

How to make it

1. Print the badges on regular paper or cardstock and cut them out. Fold each badge in half along the dashed line and secure so the design is two-sided. Fill in the child's name and add a photo in the space provided.

Craft Time: Mike Wazowski Snack Pack

What you'll need

• Template for Mike Wazowski Snack Pack
• Scissors
• Straight pins
• Green cotton fabric (half yard or so)
• Black iron-on patch
• White iron-on patch
• Ruler or tape measure
• Double-sided fusible web (such as Steam-A-Seam2), sheet and tape
• Steam iron and pressing cloth (for adhering the fusible web)
• Short length of silver cord sewing trim
• Low temperature hot glue gun
• 2 oval or oblong buttons or similar notions for the horns
• Blue button (about 1 1/8 inch wide) and black button (about ¾ inch wide) for the eye
• Small stick-on faux pearl (optional)

How to make it

1. Print the template and use the pieces as patterns for cutting out the shapes in the specified colors and types of fabric. In addition, cut two 15- by 6-inch rectangles from the green fabric.
    
2. Fuse the two green fabric rectangles back-to-back with pieces of fusible web, following the instructions on the package.
    
3. Use the flap template piece as a pattern to round one end of the fused rectangle, as shown.
    
4. Next, use the flap template piece to cut out a piece of fusible web. Adhere the web to the back of the fabric flap piece, again following the instructions on the package.
    
5. Cut out the mouth portion from the paper template. Then trace the opening on the fabric flap. Cut along the pencil line to create a mouth opening in the fabric.
    
6. Trace the mouth opening on the rounded end of the pack, too. Then center the black mouth backing on top of the tracing and press it in place.
    
7. Next, set the teeth and a silver cord “retainer” atop the backing, as shown. Set the fabric flap atop the ensemble to make sure everything is aligned properly. Then, remove the flap, and use the iron and pressing cloth to adhere the pieces to the mouth backing. Trim the ends of the retainer.
    
8. Peel the backing from the fusible web on the flap. Then press the flap in place atop the rounded end of the pack rectangle. Press the white eye circle in place above the mouth, as shown.
    
9. Fold up and press the bottom of the rectangle 4½ inches from the edge. Use fusible web tape to fuse the side seams.
    
10. Fold down and press the top of the pack 1 inch above the pocket edge.
     
11. Hot-glue the horns to the upper corners on the back of the pack. Stack and glue the eye buttons atop the eye white on the front of the pack. Stick the faux pearl (if you’re using it) to the edge of the black button for a “glint.”
     
12. Lastly, attach one part of the Velcro fastener to the underside of the flap and the corresponding piece to face of the pack.
