Cars 3 Movie Review - A Sequel Worthy of The Original

Cars 3 brings us back to the core values of the first film. We get an amazing comeback movie reminiscent of the original Cars movie in a young vs. old and change vs. heritage story. The humor, heart, action and a nostalgia of the first movie is back in this third movie in the franchise.

We open with Lightning McQueen on top of the world but suddenly his world changes with the arrival of hotshot rookie Jackson Storm (voiced by Armie Hammer).

Jackson Storm takes the racing world by storm and brings a wave of next generation racers into the racing world and many of Lightning's friends are forced into retirement.

Lightning continues to race and pushes himself too far that leads to this dramatic crash that we saw in the first teaser trailer and poster. Now Lightning questions if he should race again. After months of time to think he decides to make a comeback with the help of an ambitious new sponsor, Sterling (voiced by Nathan Fillion) and an over-eager trainer, Cruz Ramirez (voiced by Cristela Alonzo).

Lightning begins his training with Cruz and we get into the deeper story of someone who is aging and slowly comes to terms with not being the best at what they do anymore.

The relationship between Lightning and Cruz is a great one and you watch it grow and develop throughout the movie. You learn that Cruz is not only a more than capable trainer but she once had a dream of being a racer herself but ruined her only chance.

The visuals are stunning and Pixar continues to push the boundaries of creating near photo-realistic worlds. The racing scenes never looked better and the training sequences along the beach are stunning!

It is to be noted that Cars 3 makes little to no mention of Cars 2 and seems more like a direct sequel to the first Cars movie rather than the third of the franchise. On the other side of that, Doc Hudson is of huge importance here. Paul Newman passed away after the first film and they used his dialogue from the original to great effect throughout the film. We get a much greater sense of Doc's story and how it pertains to Lightning's thought process of his future.

This is definitely the best of the Cars franchise. It ends in a way that you can see a fourth film down the road. It is a wonderful film about moving on with one's life or career while surrounding itself in an underdog sports story.

Cars 3 races into theaters June 16th!

DISNEY / PIXAR'S "CARS 3" GEARS UP FOR A SEASON-LONG RIDE WITH NASCAR

DISNEY·PIXAR’S “CARS 3” GEARS UP
FOR A SEASON-LONG RIDE WITH NASCAR
“Cars 3” Director, Key Talent and Life-Sized Characters Roll into DAYTONA 500

Daytona Beach, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2017) – Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 3” is teaming up with NASCAR this year as crowd favorite Lightning McQueen prepares to return to the big screen June 16, 2017. Plans for the joint effort were shared by “Cars 3” director Brian Fee, Cristela Alonzo—the voice of the film’s elite trainer Cruz Ramirez—and NASCAR’S vice president of entertainment marketing & content development Zane Stoddard today at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida as fans gear up for the DAYTONA 500 (live Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. ET on FOX). Owen Wilson, the voice of Lightning McQueen, will serve as grand marshal for the 59th annual “Great American Race.”

NASCAR drivers Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Daniel Suárez and Bubba Wallace will join NASCAR legends Jeff Gordon and Richard Petty as voices in the upcoming film.

“‘Cars 3’ very much pays homage to stock car racing and its rich history,” said Fee. “Our story leans into the drama, emotion and excitement NASCAR fans find at every race.”

“We’re excited to take part in delivering the ‘Cars 3’ experience to our current and next generation of fans, at-track, in school, online and across the country,” added Stoddard. “In addition to all the engaging NASCAR ‘Cars 3’ elements industry-wide, we think our fans will really enjoy the roles of several young drivers in the film.”

According to Lylle Breier, senior vice president, worldwide marketing partnerships and special events for the Walt Disney Studios, the movie inspired an expanded program with NASCAR. “This collaboration marks the biggest between the ‘Cars’ franchise and NASCAR,” said Breier. “We’re looking forward to a fun and exciting season-long program with a host of activities.”

FAST FORWARD
Kicking off at the DAYTONA 500 with the premiere of a new on-air promo, the NASCAR-“Cars 3” collaboration continues throughout the entire race season.
·      The joint effort will include a variety of marketing initiatives, including digital and social cross promotional activities and sweepstakes.
·      Throughout the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, races will feature a “Cars 3” at-track presence via a wide array of promotions.
·      A co-branded merchandise program with Fanatics—the first of its kind for NASCAR and the “Cars” franchise—will also kick off at the DAYTONA 500 featuring the first film-related product available for fans to purchase. Product will be available at the Fanatics Trackside Superstore continuing at race tracks throughout the season, as well as online at the NASCAR.com Superstore.
·      NASCAR Acceleration Nation, the sport’s youth program, and the NASCAR Hall of Fame will be featured throughout the full duration of a “Cars 3” nationwide tour.
·      Later this year, NASCAR and Disney will release NASCAR Acceleration Nation and "Cars 3" co-branded in-classroom learning materials for elementary school students

THE VOICES OF NASCAR
The announcement included the introduction of NASCAR greats—from rookie drivers and legends to the voices behind the sport—tapped by Pixar Animation Studios to voice characters in the film.
·      CHASE ELLIOTT, 21, was named 2016’s Sunoco Rookie of the Year after finishing last season tenth in the driver standings. Elliott, who pilots the No. 24 car previously driven by four-time champion Jeff Gordon, lends his voice to second-generation Piston Cup racer CHASE RACELOTT in “Cars 3.” Racelott’s blend of skills, track smarts and top-of-the-line technology make this rookie a real contender.
·      RYAN BLANEY, a 23-year-old, third-generation racer, pilots the No. 21 Ford in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series. He voices third-generation racer RYAN “INSIDE” LANEY in “Cars 3.” Known for his racing passion and ability to have fun on the track, Laney races with talent, speed and precision.
·      DANIEL SUÁREZ, who just turned 25, pilots the No. 19 ARRIS Toyota Camry in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series champion can be heard in the film voicing DANNY SWERVEZ, a next-gen racer who’s ascending the Piston-Cup ladder against all odds. A mid-season replacement, Swervez is a quick learner who pushes himself to the limit.
·      BUBBA WALLACE, 23, won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway in 2013, becoming the first African American to win in one of the top three touring divisions since Wendell Scott in 1963. In “Cars 3,” Wallace voices next-gen stock car racer BUBBA WHEELHOUSE, a fast and tenacious young racer who knows how to win.
·      DARRELL WALTRIP, the NASCAR Hall of Fame racer-turned-NASCAR on FOX color analyst lends his voice to DARRELL CARTRIP. Cartrip, a veteran Piston-Cup announcer also heard in “Cars” and “Cars 2,” may think he’s seen it all—but this new season might still have a surprise or two in store.
·      SHANNON SPAKE, NASCAR on FOX correspondent and college football and basketball reporter for FOX Sports, voices on-the-track reporter SHANNON SPOKES in the film. Spokes weaves her way into the middle of the action for in-the-moment interviews, and she’s not afraid to ask racers the tough questions.
·      HOWARD AUGUSTINE “HUMPY” WHEELER JR., the legendary NASCAR promoter and former president and GM of Charlotte Motor Speedway, lends his voice to iconic Dinoco team owner TEX DINOCO in “Cars 3.” Tex, who met Lightning McQueen in “Cars,” would love nothing more than to see #95 decked out in Dinoco blue.
·      JEFF GORDON, four-time NASCAR champion, current NASCAR on FOX analyst, and story consultant for “Cars 3,” lends his voice to JEFF GORVETTE. Gorvette, whose number of top-ten finishes remains unmatched, may have hung up his racing tires—but his heart remains on the track. His ability to succeed at all levels turned hoods wherever he raced.
·      RICHARD “THE KING" PETTY, team owner and champion NASCAR driver with 200 wins, returns to the role of STRIP “THE KING” WEATHERS. From his humble beginnings on the Piston-Cup circuit to the glitzy sponsorship and media attention, the champion racer now serves as crew chief for his nephew, Cal Weathers.
·      KYLE PETTY, retired NASCAR driver and current NASCAR commentator on NBC, helps bring CAL WEATHERS to life in “Cars 3.” Weathers grew up around the track watching his uncle, Strip “The King” Weathers, tear it up. The veteran racer finds himself taking a step back to make room for the next generation on the track.
·      MIKE JOY is FOX Sports’ lead NASCAR announcer who will call his 38th DAYTONA 500 this Sunday. He lends his iconic voice to on-the-spot radio talk show host MIKE JOYRIDE in the movie. Joyride stays one step ahead in the racing news game by keeping a keen eye on where the racing season is headed.
·      RAY EVERNHAM, winner of three NASCAR championships as crew chief for Jeff Gordon and current consultant to Hendrick Motorsports, lends his voice to RAY REVERHAM, Jackson Storm’s crew chief, and an expert at training in the cutting edge technology and tactics being used by the next-gen racers. Evernham also serves as a story consultant for filmmakers.

LIFE-SIZED CHARACTERS
NASCAR fans can picture themselves with Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez—or at least life-sized cars designed to look like the big-screen characters. The Cruz Ramirez look-alike premiered in Daytona today, alongside #95—the Lightning McQueen car made its debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January. Comedian and actress Cristela Alonzo got to hang with her character look-alike at the event. “I am excited to be here as race fans get to see these two life-sized characters together for the first time,” said Alonzo.

The Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez look-alike cars are slated to make appearances at select races throughout the season as part of a “Cars 3” nationwide tour. Joining them on the tour will be a look-alike of Lightning McQueen’s on-track rival, Jackson Storm.

GOING GRAND
As was previously announced, Owen Wilson, the voice of Lightning McQueen, will serve as grand marshal of the DAYTONA 500 this Sunday, Feb. 26. Wilson has provided the voice of the red car in all of the “Cars” films.

Lightning McQueen - The Legend - Disney/Pixar's Cars 3

Lightning McQueen is world champion—a modern-day racing legend who’s riding high with five Piston-Cup wins under his hood. Suddenly, he finds himself faced with a new generation of racers who threaten not only his dominance in the sport—but the confidence that got him there. Determined to get back to the pole position, the #95 must decide if his love for racing is enough to fuel the comeback of his life.

Owen Wilson (“The Royal Tenenbaums,” upcoming “Wonder”) returns to the racetrack as the voice of the champion. Wilson stars in the upcoming Woody Harrelson-directed live film “Lost in London.”

OWEN WILSON, CRISTELA ALONZO AND ARMIE HAMMER BUCKLE UP FOR CARS 3

BURBANK, Calif. (Jan. 5, 2017) -- Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 3” filmmakers revealed key cast members and new characters in the upcoming faster-than-fast film. Joining Owen Wilson in the all-new story that tests the heart of a champion in a high-tech world are Cristela Alonzo and Armie Hammer as unconventional trainer Cruz Ramirez and next-gen racer Jackson Storm, respectively.

“Cristela is full of optimism and a positive energy that I think really comes through in Cruz’s personality,” said “Cars 3” director Brian Fee. “And of course, she’s a hilarious comedian, so that doesn’t hurt either.”

“Armie brought a great combination of intensity and charm to the role of Jackson Storm,” said Fee. “His charisma helped create a character you really love to hate.”

Directed by Fee (storyboard artist “Cars,” “Cars 2“) and produced by Kevin Reher (“A Bug’s Life,” “La Luna” short), “Cars 3” cruises into theaters on June 16, 2017.

Announced “Cars 3” Cast & Characters:

Cruz Ramirez is a sunny-but-fierce unconventional trainer at the Rust-eze Racing Center. She expertly arms the team's talented rookies with cutting-edge tools to tear up the track—but she nearly stalls when her longtime idol Lightning McQueen shows up. While she’d love to help him find his way back to the top, she knows the competition is faster than ever, and victory is all about speed—or is it?

Cristela Alonzo (“The Angry Birds Movie”) was called on to help bring the character to life. Alonzo’s debut stand-up special for Netflix, “Lower Classy,” which debuts on Jan. 24, 2017, showcases the comedian’s life as a the daughter of an immigrant, touching on important issues like social class, breaking the glass ceiling and how she can’t get the hang of Zumba.

Jackson Storm is fast, sleek and ready to race. A frontrunner in the next generation of racers, Storm’s quiet confidence and cocky demeanor are off-putting—but his unmatched speed threatens to redefine the sport. Trained on high-tech simulators that are programmed to perfect technique and maximize velocity, Jackson Storm is literally built to be unbeatable—and he knows it.

Armie Hammer (“Birth of a Nation”) was tapped as the voice of Jackson Storm. Hammer recently appeared in Tom Ford’s “Nocturnal Animals.” He will next be seen starring in “Free Fire,” directed by Ben Wheatley; “Final Portrait,” directed by Stanley Tucci; and “Call Me by Your Name,” directed by Luca Guadagnino.

2014 Kia Optima SX Turbo Review: The Vehicle That Reviews Itself!

Hi everyone! Jason, from Sasaki Time here and I thought I would have some fun with my first vehicle review for 2014! As many of you know I am a huge Disney fan and I thought I would give my vehicle some personality and let the vehicle speak for itself! So, without any further ado, here is Ted, a 2014 Kia Optima SX Turbo!

Hi there! My name's Ted and I'm a 2014 Kia Optima SX Turbo! I'm here to tell you about myself and show off my really cool features! I know what you're thinking, but yes, I am indeed a real car and who better to tell you what I can do than myself? So, sit back and enjoy my week in Southern California!
My reviewer Jason and I started off the week by taking a look at some of the places that Walt Disney lived and worked in Southern California. We started here at the Stanley Ranch Museum and Historical Village in Garden Grove. This is the home of Walt's first garage studio that was once located in Los Angeles but saved and brought here.
But before we get carried away and show you the rest of Walt Disney's homes and studio locations, let's take a look at me! I think I'm pretty dapper for a car! Check out the Remington Red that I am decked out in! Almost makes me look like that Disney/Pixar racing car Lightning McQueen!
I have all brand new front and back end styling as compared to my older brothers and sisters.
A sharper front end gives me a smaller "grin" than older family members. But I still think I have an award winning smile! Part of that smile comes from the 274 horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine! My turbocharged engine makes it feel like a V6! Plus, I get a pretty good 23 mpg in the city/34 mpg on the highway!
Check out my brand new eyes! Brand new LED daytime running lights and fog lights! Super bright and literally throw light across three lanes of traffic!
The Turbo logo on my side is brand new! It feels like a tattoo!
Check out my brand new shoes! These are new 18-inch polished alloy wheels! They allow for great grip on the road and looking stylish all at the same time!
I love my power folding side mirrors! With the proximity key option the mirror unfold as you approach me! It's my way of welcoming you and telling you I am ready to go like the wind!

Also you can get the optional blind spot detection system and I highly recommend it! This first came with the Kia Sorento and happy to see them here. You get a visual indicator as well as a tone that there is a car in your blind spot when you are looking to switch lanes or making turns. It's good to keep me and your family safe!
Check out the huge amount of trunk space to store everything from luggage to the groceries!
Plenty of rear passenger space though taller humans may be uncomfortable due my sleek sloping roofline.
I also have pulldown cup holders and an additional arm rest for the back.
My back seat air vents will keep everyone in the back nice and cool during the warm summer months.
It's easy to get into the drivers seat. So easy in fact that you may never want to leave!
Large and easy to use controls to adjust the drivers seat!
There have been some trim upgrades to the driver's cockpit. Everything is easily within reach!
The touch screen is bigger and easier than ever to use for audio or navigational needs.
The USB and auxiliary inputs are the same as my older family members. This is also a great place to put your key fob if you don't like to have your keys or fob in your pocket while driving.
The controls have a moire streamlined look than my older brothers and sisters versions.
My dash display is bigger than my older family members thus making it even easier to read. The gauges here are super bright to make it easier for you to see even during the daytime.
The shift control has a new design.

Included with every version of the Optima is satellite radio, USB and auxiliary inputs, bluetooth and a cooled glovebox.

Other amenities that you can include are heated front and rear seats. The front seats can also be air cooled. The steering wheel is also heated which is a nice touch. Power-folding mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, an eight-speaker Infinity audio system, HD radio, navigation, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind spot detection with cross traffic alert, Kia's UVO Entertainment System, push-button start, proximity key, dual-zone climate control with back seat vents and an electronic brake.

Wow, that is a ton of features! You are going to love me! But enough about me! It's time to show off the rest of Walt Disney's homes and studios in Los Angeles! It was like walking or should I saw driving in the man's shoes!
This copy store was once the home to Walt's first studio. This is the Kingwell Studio! It was so cool to take a photo here!
The houses over my shoulder to the left both belonged to Walt and his brother Roy when they moved the Studio to the larger Hyperion Studios.
The house to the right was Walt's home when he moved to what is now The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. Driving through history and being able to be in the same places as the man who gave us such great characters as Susie The Little Blue Coupe which in turn inspired the entire Cars franchise! Hopefully we will see more vehicle characters in the future!
Oh and I had to stop to get some Bold Coffee from one of my favorite places, Bruxie! If you are in Southern California you have to stop and get coffee and waffles from here! The Bold Coffee is more than enough fuel for me!
Well, as you can see from my larger neon-like LED taillights, this is the end! Hope you enjoyed the review and now I must be heading off! Take it away Jason!

Thanks Ted! Well, there you have it, a great car review from the car itself. I hope you enjoyed the review! The Kia Optima is one of my favorite vehicles to review as this is now my third time reviewing this model. It is a great family car and gets great gas mileage in a sporty looking ride that looks great sitting in Los Angeles traffic or zipping down Pacific Coast highway on a Friday evening.

The 2014 Kia Optima SX Turbo starts at $23,399.00!
