The Walking Dead Inspired Drink - The Bloody Brain Shooter

ingredients

  • 1 1/4 oz. strawberry vodka
  • 1/8 oz. Rose's lime juice
  • 3/4 oz. Bailey's Irish Cream
  • Splash of grenadine

  • Directions

Chill vodka for better smoothness. Add vodka and lime juice to a shaker, shake and strain into a shot glass. Using a straw, dip some Bailey's Irish Cream into the shot. Once you submerge the straw into the Bailey's put your finger on top of the straw to hold the Bailey's in the straw. Dip the straw tip into the vodka and slowly release your top finger. The Bailey's will curdle a little bit due to the lime juice and you should be able to make strands of Bailey's.Repeat the straw/Bailey's process to build a "brain" in the shot glass. Add a splash of grenadine to the concoction to add the 'blood' to the mix. Down the hatch as a shot.

    Sparkling Star Punch Recipe!

    What you'll need

    • 1 64-ounce bottle cold cranberry juice cocktail
    • 1 24-ounce bottle cold sparkling cider
    • 1 liter cold ginger ale
    • 1 orange, washed
    • 1 16-ounce bag frozen strawberries or cranberries(optional)
    • 4 or 5 pieces star anise(optional)

    How to make it

    1. The Basic Punch: Pour the cranberry juice (reserving 1 1/2 cups), cider, and ginger ale into a punch bowl. Halve the orange, squeezing one half of the juice into the punch. Cut the other half into slices and float them in the punch.
    2. Berry Ice Ring: Arrange the berries in a ring-style gelatin mold or bundt pan that can fit inside your punch bowl. Fill the mold with water, then freeze. Unmold the ring (warm the pan with water) and place it flat side down in the punch.
    3. A Hint of Anise: In a small saucepan, bring the anise and reserved cranberry juice to a simmer, then remove from the heat. Pour into a small bowl and let cool. Refrigerate until cold, then stir into the punch.

    Sparkling Strawberry Ginger Lemonade Recipe!

    What you'll need

    • 1 1/2 cups fresh lemon juice (about a dozen-or-so lemons)
    • 3/4 cup of sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
    • 3 large strawberries
    • 1 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger (a little larger than a walnut)
    • 2 lemongrass stalks
    • 2 cups water
    • 2 cups of chilled sparkling water or club soda
    • 4 cups of ice

    How to make it

    1. Peel the ginger by lightly scraping the sides sideway with a knife. Chop up the ginger as fine (stronger flavor) or as coarsely (milder) as you like.

    2. Trim the dry bases of the lemongrass stalks, and again, slice crossways, as fine or coarsely as you like.

    3. Place ginger, lemongrass, salt, and sugar into a saucepan with two cups of water.

    4. On medium-high heat, warm until nearly boiling, stirring occasionally.

    5. Remove the pan from heat, and let it cool and steep for an additional 10 minutes.

    6. Strain the cooled liquid into your pitcher.

    7. Pour fresh lemon juice into pitcher.
    8. Mince strawberries, add to pitcher, and stir well.

    9. Add the sparkling water to the pitcher. Mix lightly (so you don't lose the effervescence).

    10. Serve in glasses, with ice. Garnish with a slice of lemon, if you like, as pictured. Sooo refreshing!
