Asian Fusion Tacos and More from Pango in Fountain Valley!

Time to check out Pango, a brand new Asian taqueria in Fountain Valley.

This green tea horchata is my favorite new drink! The creamy horchata and the flavor of the green tea match perfectly!

I got the elote which is was delicious and just the right size for $1.25!

I also got the Korean BBQ taco which is flavorful with the kim chee and the tender bulgolgi! And it is a decent sized taco as well!

Friendly service and delicious food make this a place to check out! I look forward to going back to try more of their tacos!

Who Song and Larry's Awesome Sunday Brunch in Orange

My buddy Drew and I are making Sunday Brunch a monthly habit that we should just call ourselves the Brunch Guys! So this time we are at Who Song and Larry's in Orange. Let's see if this brunch should be a must-do on your list.

Starting with the photo above, the elote is a great sign we are in for an amazing brunch! The elote has several seasoning options but I went with the dunk in the bucket of butter, cheese and tajin!

There is a taco bar and there are three tasty options to choose from. You can get carnitas, smoked chicken or steak and bacon tacos. All three are amazing! My favorite is the steak and bacon as the steak is tender and blends well with the saltiness of the bacon.

There is also bottomless mimosas. The staff does an amazing job making sure your glass stays topped off.

There is a waffle bar and a carving station. The carving station has melt in your mouth tri-tip and two kinds of sausages.

There is also a wafflette bar where they make omelettes in a waffle maker. These wafflettes are large and can easily feed two people.

There is also a central station with all sorts of amazing dishes including garlic butter pasta, mahi mahi, sausages and more.

There is a seafood station with peel and eat shrimp, ceviche and oysters.

For an extra $9 you can get a glass of Grey Goose and head to the build-your-own bloody mary bar. So many options to make your perfect bloody mary.

Here is my creation. I think I went a little too heavy on the spices though.

It was time to make our way to dessert. The chocolate fountain has your usual marshmallows, rice krispie treats and strawberries, but they also add bacon. That's right you can make your own chocolate covered bacon.

The other dessert options include flan, fudge and pie. such a great way to wind down from all of the other food options.

And I didn't even get to the burrito bar, the menudo, the pozole and the chicharones.

Sunday Brunch is an amazing experience! Dare I say too many food options and amazing service make this a must for Sunday Brunch. Plus, they start at 9am if you want to get an early start with no crowds and take your time eating and drinking.

Brunch is $29.99 for adults and $12.50 for kids 12 and under.

Sasaki Time's Zocalo (Roseville, CA) Restaurant Review

My friend Carrie took me to one of her favorite restaurants in the Roseville area in Northern California.
I love that the tortilla chips come with both fresh salsa as well as black beans. I love chips and salsa and could eat these all day. The chips are huge and crisp and that salsa has just the right amount of kick. The black beans is a welcomed addition and go well with the salsa or just by itself to dip the chips in.
Carrie ordered her favorite, the Americanos. These are tacos that have braised chicken, crispy tortillas, shredded lettuce, salsa ranchera, jack cheese, tomato, house hot sauce, cotija and sour cream!

As you can see the dish is complete with cilantro lime rice, black beans and a seasonal salad. Everything is fresh and locally produced.

I went wit the tacos de cazuela! Check out this amazing dish! You can choose between steak or chicken. I went with the steak! The steak is then sauteed with house chorizo, onions, mushrooms and queso baked and served casserole-style.

The flavors here are unbelievable. This dish is the best parts of tacos and a stew! It's so rich and hearty and all the flavors really come together! This is a must try dish!

If you are looking for a great place for fresh Mexican food, then look no further! A great location with a great staff are all waiting for you!

Restaurant Preview: Solita in Huntington Beach!

Sasaki Time was invited to check out a special media preview of the brand new Solita Tacos & Margaritas opening in the Bella Terra in Huntington Beach!

Solita Tacos & Margaritas is the sister restaurant to SOL Mexican Cocina in Newport Beach. The idea behind this sister restaurant was to create a new neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Using only fresh, local and sustainable food to create the menu that chef and partner Deborah Schneider had in mind for Solita.

My favorite thing is the oak-fired Santa Maria-style wood grill and smoker. The food definitely has a smoky edge to it. All the proteins are cooked on the grill.
Delicious house margaritas! The secret here is just keeping it simple. Water, sugar, fresh lime and lemon juice is combined with 100% blue agave tequila! More on other margaritas later!
Even Sasaki Time mascot Lil Oishi couldn't resist one of the house margaritas! He loved them so much he needed another right away!
There is are so many beautiful hand crafted wood tables throughout the restaurant.

I love the use of the agave plant throughout the entire restaurant!
The entire space just says comfort. It feels like being at home. A bigger home but it still feels like home.
Almost too many things to take photos of. The simplicity of the place seems to lend itself to wanting to take more photos.
The spicy evil green salsa and the smoky chipotle salsa are made in house and are very addicting. You have been warned! Plus, they are served with salted durros! A favorite of mine!
The amazing work of art called the tequila shrimp and avocado sundae! Take your spoon, stir and enjoy!
With the word tacos in the restaurant name you will get an amazing array to keep you satisfied in the day and months to come. You will find no fewer than 13 different taco plates to choose from.
The yellowtail ceviche was one of the best ever. You can really taste the freshness here from the fish to the tomatoes and onions.
The nachos are layered so every bite is full of all of the flavors you see here.
Wood-grilled wild fish looks amazing. This is probably one of the most expensive items on the menu as it is market price but the rest of the menu does not exceed $21.
This was the biggest quesadilla I had ever seen.
The grilled corn elote may very well become the most popular item on the menu. The whole ear of sweet corn is grilled with butter, chipotle salsa, california chiles, cotixa and green onions.
You are looking at the hands down my favorite drink here, the horchata margarita! The housemade horchata is mixed with Agavales Tequila Blanco and 1921 Crema de Tequila and topped off with a sprinkle of cinnamon! Seriously this is my favorite new drink of the year. I cannot wait to go back to have another!
Here are just two of the several fruit flavored frozen margaritas. On the left is the mango frozen margarita with a chili salt rim! This will become your new favorite! The one on the right is the strawberry frozen margarita! I think a frozen margarita flight should be made available.

Solita Tacos & Margaritas opens December 26th serving dinner only. Lunch will be added during the second week of operation. Happy Hour, Taco Tuesday, brunch and other ideas are all in the planning stages.

Taco Asylum!

Today I finally went to Taco Asylum in Costa Mesa and was it ever worth the wait! They also own the Haven Gastropub in Orange.

They offer a fine selection of been on tap or in cans. There is also a broad selection of sodas as well. I decided on the hemp ale which is like a Newcastle but not as sweet.

For my taco selection, I went with the flight, which is the best place to start if you are a first timer like I am! right off the bat you can tell the ingredients are fresh and above your regular taco place. The 8 tacos that are offered at octopus, pork belly, short rib, lamb, duck, wild mushroom, corazon, and curried paneer.

While all the tacos are delicious, my favorites were the pork belly, short rib, wild mushroom and the octopus. The pork belly and short rib are definitely Asian inspired with wonderful pickled vegetables and pull apart melt in your mouth meat. I consider the meat to be like kalua pork. These two I would order time and time again! The wild mushroom took me by surprise as I am not a mushroom fan but they tasted smoky and had a meat-like texture! Now the biggest surprise was the octopus. Now octopus tends to be rubbery if not prepared properly and this was tender and moist.

The taco that is not offered in the flight is the ghost chili pork taco! Wow, the ghost chili knocked me on my rear! This bad boy was HOT! My mouth was on fire and I actually could not eat the whole thing! I'm glad that I stopped and didn't try to finish it off! But it had a great flavor but just too HOT for me!

All in all a great place for amazing tacos and great beer! The prices are a bit high but after experiencing the truly unique tacos filled with fresh ingredients I will be back!
