STAR WARS’ CHEWBACCA CHALLENGES FANS TO ‘ROAR FOR CHANGE’
Star Wars: Force for Change to Donate Up To $1 Million to Support UNICEF
Disney store Offers ‘Roar in Store’ Discount on all Star Wars Products to Celebrate Star Wars Day

LOS ANGELES (May 3, 2018) —Lucasfilm and Star Wars: Force for Change today announced Roar For Change, a global challenge in support of UNICEF. The initiative invites fans and families to share their own version of Chewbacca’s iconic roar. For each public post, like, or share on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter that includes #RoarForChange between May 3 - 25, 2018Star Wars: Force for Change U.S. will donate $1 to UNICEF USA, up to $1 million. Funds will be used to support UNICEF’s lifesaving work for children around the world.

“Every year, May 4th has seen fans across the globe become Forces for Change and rally around good causes,” says Paul Gainer, Head of Disney Consumer Products Commercialization. “This year, as part of the countdown to the launch of Solo: A Star Wars Story, we’re giving them a fun way to support UNICEF while celebrating Han’s legendary sidekick Chewbacca, and his iconic roar, which is almost as recognizable as the Wookiee warrior himself.”

Fans can share their best Chewbacca impersonation, don Hasbro’s Electronic Chewbacca mask, or create a Dubsmash using one of Chewbacca’s best-known roars from the Star Wars saga, which will be hosted on the app’s homepage for the duration of the campaign.

The initiative kicked off with a video featuring the cast of Solo: A Star Wars Story, revealing Chewbacca’s diva behavior on the set of the new movie, which hits theaters on May 25.

“Chewbacca may not always have the best temperament but beneath the gruff exterior is a heart of gold,” says director Ron Howard in the launch video. “That’s why he’s challenging you to Roar for Change.”

Fans and families attending Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite on May 3rd will also be invited to join the celebration during the park-wide exclusive event. Additionally, on May 4th, guests at the Disney store in San Francisco will have the chance to meet Chewbacca and roar alongside the legend himself, and from May 4 - 6, fans that roar and post on social media in Disney store locations nationwide using #RoarForChange will receive 10% off their Star Wars purchase.[1]

Partners from across the Star Wars galaxy have joined forces to celebrate the initiative. LEGO is taking to the streets of New York with the first-ever Brick Millennium Falcon pedicab to promote Roar for Change and give fans the chance to roar alongside Chewbacca himself in Bryant Park on May 4. Hasbro and Funko each met the challenge to Roar for Change and created celebratory videos to help unlock the donation to UNICEF.

Spoiler-Free Review of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

It's been a little over three years since Disney announced they were purchasing Lucasfilm and making more Star Wars films. After years of hype and speculation, the first Star Wars film without George Lucas, is finally here. This will be a spoiler-free review. However, I must tell you that the trailers and TV spots have given away absolutely nothing!

Star Wars is simply back! Forget the awkwardness of the prequels and trying to bring The Force into the scientific world, this is the return to the spirit of the original trilogy! While there is nothing better than seeing old friends from the original trilogy back on the big screen, it is truly the action, the humor as well as the energy that has been recaptured here.

The Force Awakens introduces to us a whole new group of actors who will move the franchise forward. The new cast will impress you. The dynamic between John Boyega's Finn and Daisy Ridley's Rey is wonderful. It feels warmly familiar and yet different all at the same time. They seemlessly blend in with the established cast of Han Solo, Leia and Chewbacca. But the real strength is Adam Driver's performance as Kylo Ren. Kylo is powerful, cruel and angry. BB-8 is a complete joy and if you haven't fallen in love with him yet, you will.

The Force Awakens also recaptures the feeling of A New Hope. That feeling that just in front of you is adventure and greatness. These things were definitely missing in the prequels. The same sense of hope and wonder from the original trilogy is here in The Force Awakens.

The familiarity here has as much to do with the dialogue as it does with the use of both practical and computer effects. Lawrence Kasdan brought that level of familiarity to The Force Awakens. Having rewritten The Empire Strikes Back and co-writing Return of The Jedi, no one understands the characters of Han Solo, Leia and Chewbacca better and it shows here. J.J. Abrams brings with him his clear understanding of tightly controlled storytelling, with a fantastic ability of setting things up and paying them off and a real feel for action. The lightsaber battles feel more fluid and realistic than even the ones we witnessed in the prequel trilogy. Even the X-Wing and TIE fighter battles have a real sense of physicality that not even the prequels could come close to.

J.J. Abrams and his team have created a film that lives up to not only the Star Wars name, but to fan expectations as well. But perhaps the films greatest achievement is that the film can be enjoyed without having seen the original trilogy. I cannot wait to see what both Rian Johnson and Colin Tevorrow have planned for the following sequels.

Take a Look at The New Cars/Star Wars Mash-up Vehicles!

Star Wars Weekends are in full effect at The Disney Hollywood Studios in Florida and along with celebrity appearances, parades, firework shows and food items, there is a ton of merchandise! Maybe one day they can host this in California as well!

One of the coolest items they released was a Star Wars/Cars mash-up of vehicles! Well, they just released series two and here they are in photographic glory!

First up is Red as Chewbacca!
Chick Hicks is the perfect choice to be Boba Fett!
Mater and Doc Hudson battle it out as Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi!
Luigi is C3PO with two of the pitties as Jawas!
The ever calm and cool Ramon is Han Solo!
Here are the three that I purchased and had to take their photo in Cars Land!

So far these vehicles are only available at the parks! You can find them in pretty much any store but I had to buy them at Sarge's Surplus Hut in Cars Land! It only seemed fitting!
