STARS OF ROGUE ONE ALONG WITH TALENT ACROSS MUSIC, FILM, FASHION AND SPORTS TEAM UP TO BE A #FORCEFORCHANGE

Riz Ahmed, June Ambrose, Steve Aoki, Camilla Belle, Gareth Edwards, Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Olivia Munn, Kelly Slater, and Brittany Snow Support UNICEF KID POWER Through Unique T-shirt Collection

‘Force 4 Fashion’ Line to be Sold Exclusively at Target from November 27

Glendale, Calif. (November 22, 2016) – As fans count down to the premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Disney, Target and Star Wars: Force for Change are launching a new fashion-meets-fundraising initiative inspired by the themes of rebellion from the new movie. Ten influential names across film, music, fashion and sports have come together to support UNICEF Kid Power by creating a line of “Force 4 Fashion” T-shirts available exclusively in the U.S. at Target beginning November 27.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will introduce fans to a group of rebels who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves. Each of the T-shirt designs celebrates this theme using a powerful slogan to represent the importance of standing up for what you believe in.

Five dollars from the sale of each shirt will be donated to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF in support of UNICEF Kid Power. Through this unique initiative, kids can complete physical activities and interactive challenges to earn points—which ultimately are used to provide life-saving packets of food for severely malnourished children around the world. The more kids move, the more points they earn, the more kids they help.

“This campaign is about raising funds and awareness for UNICEF Kid Power’s mission to improve the lives of children everywhere,” said Paul Southern, senior vice president of licensing for Lucasfilm at Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “Everyone connected to this initiative has been a Force for Change in different ways, and we hope their stories will inspire others to get involved.”

Blu-Ray Review: Disney's The BFG Brings Spielberg Magic Home

Over the years, Steven Spielberg has brought us some of the most memorable family films of all-time, including E.T., Hook, An American Tail and The Land Before Time. With all of these exceptional family films and many more under his belt it is hard to believe that The BFG marks his first movie with Disney. And what a movie it is! Based on the beloved book by Roald Dahl, The BFG is one of the most heartwarming and visually stunning films of the year.

Roald Dahl has been responsible for some of the most imaginative books for children from The BFG to Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and more. His detailed descriptions help children to visualize the amazing worlds that he creates.

The movies opens in London where we meet Sophie (Ruby Barnhill), a little girl who lives in an orphanage. She suffers from insomnia and spends her time sneaking around the orphanage. One night a giant takes her into the Land of Giants. We soon discover this is The Big Friendly Giant (Mark Rylance) and together with Sophie, the pair end up on an epic adventure. Sophie helps The BFG come up with a plan to get rid of an evil band of giants.

The relationship between Sophie and The BFG is very much a grandfather to granddaughter. The chemistry between the Barnhill and Rylance feels genuine. The bond will melt your heart as the film pulls on all the heartstrings from tears to laughter.

The reason why I love movies is to transport me to worlds that I could never imagine or time periods that I could never experience. The BFG succeeds in taking me to a world where magic exists and fairy-tale endings do come true.

If you can, see it in glorious Dolby Vision and hear it in Dolby Atmos. The colors in Dolby Vision explode off the screen and the 3D is stunning! Then add Dolby Atmos to create an audio environment that not only surrounds you but encompasses you as well!

Audio:

The DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 sound mix that accompanies the feature is fantastic. Another solid effort from Disney. The dialogue and music is crystal clear and filling the room with the sounds of giant waterfalls and military helicopters, not to mention the unconventional noises made by whizzpoppers, ringbellers, phizwizzards and trogglehumpers.

Video:

The BFG's 1080p transfer is another outstanding effort from Disney. You will be floored with the level of onscreen detail to be found in both the real-life actors and the fully CG giants. Clothing and environments are all highly detailed. The rich color palette of the movie comes to life in the lush green grass of Giant Country and the multicolored spheres of dancing light that zig and zag against the backdrop of a night sky.

Extras:

  • Bringing The BFG To Life (27:09) - A making-of documentary that touches on the life of Roald Dahl, Melissa Mathison's script, the casting of Mark Rylance and Ruby Barnhill, the sets, props and costumes, and the motion capture technology used to bring the BFG and his world to life.
  • The Big Friendly Giant And Me (1:55) - An animated short, as told from the point-of-view of a little boy befriended by the BFG.
  • Gobblefunk: The Wonderful Words Of The BFG (3:16) - A piece about Gobblefunk, otherwise known as the official language of the BFG.
  • Giants 101 (4:57) - A look at the film's nine other giants, the actors who play them, and the work of movement coach Terry Notary.
  • Melissa Mathison: A Tribute (5:54) - The filmmakers fondly remember screenwriter Melissa Mathison, who passed away shortly after the film's production.

Disney's Moana Is A Masterpiece (Non-Spoiler Review)

Over the last several years the Walt Disney Animation Studios has been on a roll. Call it the Third Golden Age of Animation for the company but Disney Animation is clearly re-inventing itself. With each film adding to its already rich legacy, Moana may be the one that shows the true confidence in the animation department.

While on the surface, Moana appears to be the simple princess who goes against what her parents want in order to save the day story, But as the story unfolds, there are deeply developed lead characters and powerful emotions.

Just like all the other Disney heroines, Moana is destined to do great things but she wants to choose a different path as the ocean calls to her. And without any spoilers, her father has very good reasons for her not venturing out to sea. But of course through situations and her grandmother's encouragement, we are off on our adventure.

The film opens with Maui and we see that he is the one that has set the ball in motion and may not be the hero that everyone thinks he is. He might not even be the person who you can trust when the chips are down. This adds an enormous amount of tension to the movie as the two begin the quest to make things right. But Moana can hold her own against Maui and she also has the ocean on her side.

The ocean is the force that calls to Moana. In an early scene we see her encounter with an ocean that behaves in a very unexpected way towards her. A scene that shows Moana and her destiny. Two powerful songs, the father play-it-safe "Where We Are," and Moana's I Want Song, "How Far I'll Go," at the beginning of the film will leave little doubt that Moana and the ocean are connected.

The songs and music from Opetaia Foa'i, Mark Mancina and Lin-Manuel Miranda are some of the best ever created for a Disney animated movie. The songs were not about creating a hit single but instead fit the narrative and propel the story forward all the while establishing the setting and character. This makes the songs more akin to Beauty and The Beast instead of Frozen. I bought the soundtrack immediately after seeing the movie and you will too.

The animation is absolutely stunning. Bright and bold colors bring the Polynesian culture to life. The characters including Moana are more realistically proportioned. Breaking Moana free of the body image of past princesses allows Moana to take an almost 2D form when it comes to expressions. Yet at the same time the camera angles can sweep in and around characters and environments much like a live-action film. And the ocean, while we have seen in in such animated films like Finding Dory, the water itself has never looked better or had more personality.

Moana is a celebration of life, friendship and family. Moana takes control of her own destiny and creates one of the most remarkable Disney princesses yet.
