Craft Time: Kermit Easter Egg

What You’ll Need

• Wooden egg
• Small piece of a soft craft sponge
• Medium green acrylic craft paint
• Scissors
• Cardboard tissue tube
• Glue sealer, such as Mod Podge, and a soft paintbrush for applying it
• Craft paper (red, pink, light green)
• Tacky glue and small stiff paintbrush or wooden toothpick to apply it
• Ruler
• Pencil
• Black fine-tipped permanent marker

How To Make It

1. Sponge-paint the egg medium green, and then set it aside to dry. (Tip: A piece of rolled scrap paper secured with a staple or tape, makes a handy stand to set the egg on while the paint dries.)
2. Cut a 3-inch length from the cardboard tissue tube. Cut the tube up the back and then overlap and staple together the ends to create a 1¼-inch-wide tube. Paint the tube medium green, and set it aside to dry.
3. Print the template. Lightly brush a coat of glue sealer over the pair of eyes and let the sealer dry (this shouldn’t take long). Meanwhile, use the other template pieces as patterns for cutting out the specified shapes from colored craft paper.
4. Glue the pink tongue in place centered atop the mouth. Then, cut out the sealed eyes and glue them atop the green eye backings. Let the glue dry.
5. Turn the egg upside down (with the pointed end at the bottom), and glue the assembled mouth in place, positioning the lower edge of the paper ¾ inch from the bottom of the egg.
6. When the glue has dried, pencil short curved smile lines on the egg at both corners of the mouth, then carefully trace over them with the fine-tipped marker.
7. Brush a protective coat of glue sealer on the egg, going right over the paper, to seal it and to give it a little sheen. Seal the surface of the tube and Kermit’s collar, as well.
8. Once the sealer has dried (this shouldn’t take long), lightly pencil placement marks on the egg for the eyes (the lower edges should be about ½ inch above the mouth and the sides should be about ¼ inch apart). Apply glue to the lower half of the paper on the backs of the eyes, and attach them to the egg at a slight angle. Let the glue dry.
9. Meanwhile, snuggly wrap Kermit’s collar around the top of the tube, overlapping the ends and gluing them together on the back side. To give the collar a little more dimension, use your fingers to curl the points away from the tube. Then set the egg atop the finished stand, and your Kermit Easter egg is complete.

Craft Time: Cheshire Cat Easter Egg

What You’ll Need

• Hard-boiled eggs dyed purplish-red (using Easter egg dye or gel food coloring) or a plastic egg of a similar size and color
• Scissors
• Craft paper (lavender or purplish-pink paper for the grin and ears, purple striped paper for the body and tail) *
• Toilet tissue tubes or paper towel tube
• Glue stick
• Glue dots
• Fine-tipped black marker

How To Make It

1. Create a stand for the egg by wrapping purple striped paper around a section of a toilet tissue or paper towel tube and securing the overlapped edges with glue. Cut a bushy tail shape out of the same paper and glue it to the base of the holder (if you like, you can even accentuate the tip of the tail with lavender paper). Place the egg sideways atop the holder.
2. Print the template and cut out all the pieces. Use the specified pieces to cut out a lavender or purplish-pink grin and pair of ears.

3. Glue the teeth and nose cutouts onto the grin, as shown.

4. Then draw on whiskers.
5. Use glue dots to stick the upper edge of the assembled grin to the egg, but leave the lower edge unattached so that it remains flat and looks broad (like the Cheshire Cat’s). Glue the eyes in place just above the nose, and use the marker to draw on eyebrows.

6. Lastly, outline each ear with a black marker and then fold the lower edge back as shown. Glue the folded portion of each ear to the top of the egg.

Craft Time: Toy Story LGM Easter Egg

What You’ll Need

• Hard-boiled eggs dyed alien green (using Easter egg dye or gel food coloring) or plastic eggs of a similar size and color
• Scissors
• Craft paper (green, blue, and purple)
• Toilet tissue tubes or paper towel tube
• Paper hole punch
• Glue stick
• Glue dots
• Fine-tipped black marker

How To Make It

1. Print the template and use it to cut out a pair of green paper ears for each alien. Fold the ears in half to create a center crease, as shown.

2. Fashion an antenna for each alien by first folding a 3-inch long thin strip of green paper in half and gluing the two sides together, stopping 1/8-inch from the ends. Then fold the ends out to the sides, as shown.

3. Next, use the paper hole punch to create two green dots and glue them together, sandwiching the top of the antenna between them.
4. Create a stand for each egg by wrapping blue paper around a section of a toilet tissue or paper towel tube and securing the overlapped edges with glue. Add a thin strip of purple paper around the top of the tube for a collar.
5. Set the eggs sideways atop their stands. Use glue dots to attach the ears and antennae. Add three eyes to each egg, placing the center one slightly higher than the other two.
6. For the finishing touch, draw a wide smile on each alien (this is easier to do if you remove the egg from the stand and hold it in one hand while drawing with the other).

Craft Time: Donald Duck Easter Candy Box

What You’ll Need

• Regular paper or cardstock
• Glue or double-sided tape
• Scissors

How To Make It

1. Print the template on regular paper or cardstock and cut out all the pieces. Make all folds along the dashed lines.
2. Using either glue or double-sided tape, close Donald’s body by securing the tabs around his torso to their corresponding pieces.
3. Close the bottom of the candy box by securing the B tabs, followed by the C tab.
4. Fold each of Donald’s arms in half along the dashed line so the design is two-sided. Without sticking the tabs together, secure the two sides.
5. Butterfly the tabs on Donald’s arms, and secure them to the sides of his body. His right arm holds the egg, while his left holds the paintbrush.
6. Finally, fold the top dashed lines on Donald’s legs toward you, and fold the lower dashed lines away from you – this will help him sit in place.
