Buena Vista Street History: Julius Katz Shoe and Watch Repair, 2701 Buena Vista St.
Origins of name: Julius Katz is a play on words – it refers to Julius the Cat, an animated cat who accompanied the live-action Alice character in Disney's silent "Alice in Cartoonland" shorts of the 1920s.
Fictional back story: Julius Katz was an immigrant who opened a small watch and radio repair store – a sort of early-day electronics shop. The store has an old-world feel and boasts, "Quality work at reasonable prices! All repairs done on premises." As Katz's children grew up, they decided to expand their father's business, opening Julius Katz & Sons next door.
Street address: The "01" in the address number is a tribute to the year Walt Disney was born – 1901.
What it sells: Home décor and seasonal merchandise, including kitchen gadgets, dinnerware, hand towels and aprons
