Disney/Dreamworks Pictures' The Light Between Oceans on Digital HD Blu-ray™ DVD and On-Demand Jan 24th

BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 1, 2016 — On Jan. 24, DreamWorks Pictures’ “The Light Between Oceans,” a lush, classical romance, starring two-time Academy Award® nominee Michael Fassbender (Best Actor, Steve Jobs), Oscar® winner Alicia Vikander (Best Supporting Actress, The Danish Girl), and Oscar and Golden Globe® winner Rachel Weisz (Best Supporting Actress, The Constant Gardener), arrives home on Digital HD, Blu-ray™, DVD and On-Demand. The mesmerizingly beautiful film is based on the 2012 best-selling novel by M.L. Stedman, which swept readers away with its transporting story of fate, love, moral dilemmas and the lengths one couple will go to see their hard-fought dreams realized.

The in-home release of “The Light Between Oceans” will carry audiences even deeper into this timeless tale of love and impossible choices through never-before-seen bonus features, including a documentary which reveals director Derek Cianfrance’s unique approach that allowed the all-star cast to embody their characters and examine the power of love; a historical look at New Zealand’s Cape Campbell Lighthouse that serves as Janus Rock, a key element in Stedman’s novel; and insightful and in-depth audio commentary led by Cianfrance.

Cianfrance was transfixed by M.L. Stedman’s writing and remained faithful to her book, explaining, “The most meaningful compliment on the film I’ve received so far was from Stedman herself, who said she spent the day weeping after attending a screening … weeping because she felt that she was understood.” According to Stedman, “The result is an exquisitely beautiful and emotionally authentic film that stays true to the spirit of my novel, yet also embodies the deeply personal interpretation of the director and his actors. It’s been a great privilege to watch it come into being.”

DreamWorks Pictures’ “The Light Between Oceans” stars Michael Fassbender as Tom Sherbourne, a young combat veteran and lighthouse keeper on a remote island off the coast of Western Australia; Alicia Vikander as Isabel Graysmark, the beautiful and spirited daughter of the school headmaster on the mainland of Partageuse; Rachel Weisz as Hannah Roennfeld, a resident of Partageuse who is desperately hoping to find her husband and baby lost at sea; Bryan Brown as Septimus Potts, Hannah’s wealthy, influential father; and Jack Thompson as Ralph, a salty, sea-faring skipper. The film is written for the screen and directed by Derek Cianfrance based on the novel by M.L. Stedman and produced by Oscar-nominee David Heyman, p.g.a. and Jeffrey Clifford, p.g.a. The executive producers are Tom Karnowski, Rosie Alison, Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King.

Bonus features include*:
BLU-RAY & DIGITAL HD:
  • Bringing The Light to Life – For weeks, the cast and crew of “The Light Between Oceans” lived in trailers on Cape Campbell, an isolated region of New Zealand, to film the movie adaptation of the best-selling novel.  This documentary chronicles the unique approach and shooting style of director Derek Cianfrance and the production journey that inspired Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Rachel Weisz to fully embody their characters and explore the power and depths of love.
  • Audio Commentary – View the film accompanied by an in-depth and thoughtful conversation between director Derek Cianfrance and his film studies professor Phil Solomon.

Bridge of Spies Movie Review

The Fall brings my favorite time of movie watching, the award contenders. Enter Bridge of Spies directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Tom Hanks and a script written by the Coen Brothers. How is this Cold War thriller? Well let's take a look.

The story opens in 1957, when the FBI arrest Rudolph Abel (Mark Rylance) for spying on the United States.

Enter Jim Donovan (Tom Hanks), a successful insurance lawyer, who was given the task of defending Abel. While everyone is ready to throw Abel under the bus and make an example out of him, Donovan believes that everyone is entitled to a fair and just trial.

In another part of the country, the CIA has brought in several young Air Force pilots to be part of a new program to fly a state of the art spy plane.

The Abel trial has ended and to no surprise, Abel is found guilty. Donovan kept Abel away from the death penalty.

It was a lucky turn of events that Donovan was able to keep Abel away from the death penalty as Francis Gary Powers (Austin Stowell) is shot down out of the sky above Russia and is facing a stiff prison sentence of his own.

Donovan finds himself as the man who is going to be sent to try to negotiate the release of Powers for Abel. While Donovan is sent overseas, he also discovers another young American, Fredric Pryor (Will Rogers), who was detained after finding himself on the wrong side of the newly built Berlin Wall.

A powerful film that captures the hysteria and paranoia of the Cold War. The two most powerful moments are when Powers U2 spy plane is shot down and when we see the building of the Berlin Wall. It's the first time I can remember seeing the wall being built in a movie.

I highly recommend Bridge of Spies. Watch an every man do the right thing even when doing the right thing is not the popular choice. Watch his struggle with the country, the world and worst of all his own family. Let the movie award season begin here.

Movie Review: Need For Speed! One amazing ride!

Typically, when you hear that there is movie coming out based on a video game, it is best to not head into the theater to see it. These type of movies usually forget the heart of the video game and you end up not caring about the story as well. But Need For Speed succeeds in telling a good story and staying true to the core of the video game.
Aaron Paul, who plays Tobey Marshall, is given the proper motivation to stay behind the wheel for pretty much the entire movie. He not only has enemies but also a deadline to meet. He is in a race that ends in the death of a friend and ends up being framed for that death. So, while in prison he plots his revenge. He is going to even the score in highly illegal street race. The catch is that the race is on the other side of the country and he has two days to get there. So, there are three races in this one movie. It is a huge adrenaline rush as the foot hits the gas and never lets up! Aaron Paul totally sells himself as the next big leading man.
The first thing that comes to mind is that this film is just trying to capitalize on the success of the massive Fast and Furious franchise. But Need For Speed separates itself by being more about the cars and actual racing than any of the Fast and Furious movies. It also further separates itself by filming as much action as practically as possible. Wait until you see the fantastic shots taken by the GoPro cameras attached to the vehicles! No CGI here, or at least very little of it! Also, wait until you see the amazing action sequence in the picture above with that U.S. Army helicopter!
What really works here is that Need For Speed doesn't take itself too seriously but then takes itself just seriously enough to keep it all together. This goes down as one of the best video game to movie adaptations ever. Put on your seatbelt, sit back and hold on, you are in for one amazing ride!

Need For Speed opens March 14th, 2014!
