SEATTLE— Ahead of the highly anticipated release of Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” on June 21, Alaska Airlines unveiled a special-edition aircraft today. The “Toy Story 4”-themed aircraft, Alaska’s second livery to feature Pixar’s characters, is decked out with toys from the “Toy Story 4” world. The aircraft was revealed to a crowd of surprised guests at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport by Alaska’s own Chief Football Officer Russell Wilson.

Toy Story 4: Non-Spoiler Review for the Best Toy Story Movie Yet

Back in 1995, a little known company called Pixar, released the world's first computer animated movie called Toy Story and animated films have never been the same. Now, Toy Story 4 is ready to hit theaters and this may very well be the best of the entire franchise. It is charming, poignant and follows a beautiful story arc that makes a logical progression from each of the previous movies. It is also the funniest of the four. In fact, I know I missed a lot of dialogue because of all the laughter coming from the audience.

The movie begins with a flashback to where Bo Peep went and then we get back to the present time with Bonnie and her first day of school. She created a new toy named Forky and then her family is off on a road trip. Forky doesn't understand why he exists and Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky the value of being a child's toy. Along the way Woody runs into Bo Peep and we are off on our adventure.

First time Director Josh Cooley takes the themes from the previous three films and greatly expands upon them. The ending of Toy Story 3 is expanded upon in a way that feels natural. This fourth outing takes us to a small town and we learn that there can be more than one reason for a toy's purpose and more than one reason for a toy to be happy. The difference between free will and one's own purpose is expanded upon here. The other main theme of the relationship of a toy as a child has always been the theme throughout the series as we watch children grow up before our very eyes is expanded upon as well.

The new characters fit in perfectly and we learn more about each of them. I was already a fan of both Ducky and Bunny from the teaser trailers and they continue with the laughs throughout the film. The standout additions are Forky and Duke Caboom. Forky's childlike innocence is infectious and helps advance the story and a reminder of a toy's purpose. Caboom's charm and charisma steal every scene that he is in. Gabby Gabby and her ventriloquist dummies and an element of comedic horror to the mix.

The film is visually stunning and the photorealistic quality is second to none. Wait until you see the rain sequence at night. Great new characters with our old friends out on adventure that make you laugh and make you cry. Toy Story 4 works not only as a sequel to the progression of our favorite toys but also as a wonderful stand alone movie. If this is indeed the end to this franchise then it is a perfect sendoff. I would be more than happy to see if there is a fifth chapter to this beloved franchise in a few years and I will be the first to welcome Toy Story 5 with open arms.

“Toy Story 4” Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Feature Song Performed by Chris Stapleton

DISNEY AND PIXAR’S TOY STORY 4 ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK FEATURES TWO NEW SONGS AND ORIGINAL SCORE
COMPOSED AND CONDUCTED BY RANDY NEWMAN

INCLUDING “THE BALLAD OF THE LONESOME COWBOY”
PERFORMED BY CHRIS STAPLETON

Soundtrack Pre-Order Kicks Off Today and is Available from
Walt Disney Records on June 21 as Movie Opens in Theaters

BURBANK, Calif. (June 5, 2019) – Woody, Buzz and the gang are back in the highly anticipated Disney and Pixar animated film, “Toy Story 4.” Accompanying the film is Walt Disney Records’ soundtrack album, which reunites the Toy Story franchise with the Academy Award®-winning composer and songwriter Randy Newman. The soundtrack features two new songs “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away” and “The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy.”  The end credit version of “The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy” is performed by multi-Platinum, Grammy®-winning musician Chris Stapleton.   The song is available today as a single and lyric video.  The soundtrack will be available from Walt Disney Records on June 21 as the film opens in U.S. theaters nationwide.

The “Toy Story” films are beloved worldwide for their compelling characters, extraordinary storytelling, stunning visuals and the music of Randy Newman. The composer and songwriter is behind signature songs like “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “Strange Things,” “When She Loved Me” and “We Belong Together,” the last of which earned him an Academy Award® for best original song in 2010. “His music defines these movies,” said director Josh Cooley, “I can’t imagine making a fourth one without Randy Newman.”

Newman said, “I have great affection for the films, and it was good to be back in that world again.”  According to Newman, “Toy Story 4”—like its predecessors—has great emotional depth. “Important things are happening to people we love,” he said. “There’s plenty of action, but there’s a lot of deeper stuff. This picture had a lot of opportunity to do things of some depth emotionally—but not overdo it.”

Newman penned two new songs in the film, including “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away,” which is about Bonnie’s craft-project-turned-toy, Forky. “He gets it in his head that he’s disposable, so he keeps trying to throw himself in the trash can,” said Newman. “And Woody has put himself in charge of keeping him from doing so.”

“The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy" was written from Woody’s perspective.  Newman said, “Woody feels like he was a lonesome cowboy until someone comes along and changes his world.” Newman was excited to hear Chris Stapleton would record the end credit version of the song and felt he’d bring Woody’s feelings to life perfectly. “Chris Stapleton did a great job on this song.”

Stapleton said, “To me what has made the ‘Toy Story’ films hold up over time has been the strength of the stories and the songs and the writing and the characters. There’s something for people of all ages to enjoy in the world that is ‘Toy Story.’ It’s a tremendous honor to get to sing a Randy Newman song in what is without question one of the most iconic animated franchises in history.”

The Toy Story 4 original motion picture soundtrack is now available for physical pre-order. “The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy” performed by Chris Stapleton is available at streaming and download services.  For more information on Walt Disney Records releases, follow us at Facebook.com/Disney,Instagram/disneymusic, Twitter.com/disneymusic and our Disney Pixar Hits Playlist athttp://disneymusic.co/DisneyPixarHitsPL.

THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION NETWORK’S LION RECOVERY FUND ANNOUNCE THE LION KING “PROTECT THE PRIDE” CAMPAIGN

THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION NETWORK’S LION RECOVERY FUND ANNOUNCE THE LION KING “PROTECT THE PRIDE” CAMPAIGN

Disney to Donate up to $3 Million to Help Double the Lion Population by 2050

BURBANK, Calif., June 5, 2019 – To celebrate the release of Disney’s The Lion King, the upcoming groundbreaking feature film helmed by Jon Favreau, The Walt Disney Company has launched a global conservation campaign to raise awareness of the crisis facing lions and other wildlife across Africa. The Lion King “Protect the Pride” campaign focuses on protecting and revitalizing lion populations and the habitats they need to thrive. Disney has already donated more than $1.5 million to the Wildlife Conservation Network’s (WCN) Lion Recovery Fund (LRF) and its partners and will make additional grants as well as invite fans to help double the donation for a total contribution of up to $3 million. Fans may participate by taking part in celebratory experiences and purchasing special-edition products, as part of The Lion King Protect the Pride campaign.

It’s been 25 years since Disney released the original version of The Lion King; sadly, during that time Africa has lost half of its lions, and only about 20,000 remain. Disney is supporting the Lion Recovery Fund and their vision to double the lion population by 2050 through efforts that engage communities to ensure a brighter future for African wildlife and their habitats. Protecting lions supports the entire circle of life in Africa, from hyenas to meerkats. Lions face rising threats; however, research shows their numbers can be strengthened if they and the habitats they share with people and other African wildlife are adequately protected.

Disney is committed to supporting lion conservation efforts and we believe The Lion King is the perfect story to remind us of the role we each have in helping ensure a world where these majestic animals are treasured and protected,” said Elissa Margolis, senior vice president, Enterprise Social Responsibility for The Walt Disney Company. “Conservation has always been a core value of The Walt Disney Company and that commitment is apparent in everything from our films to our theme parks and is why we created the Disney Conservation Fund. Through the stories we tell and the experiences we create, we have the power to reach people around the world and inspire them to take action with us.”

The Disney Conservation Fund (DCF) has directed $75 million to save wildlife globally since 1995, including $13 million to protect African wildlife spanning more than 30 countries. The Lion King Protect the Pride donation will be DCF’s largest single contribution in its 24-year history, supporting WCN’s Lion Recovery Fund and their work to engage people in conservation solutions. The Lion Recovery Fund supports a variety of partner organizations working in Africa and employs a three-pronged approach to lion recovery: investing in conservation projects on the ground, developing campaigns that build support for the protection and revitalization of Africa’s lion populations, and expanding and strengthening collaborations, as no single entity will be able to solve this challenge alone.

As a kickoff to The Lion King Protect the Pride campaign, Disney and WCN convened more than 80 leading lion conservation experts this past May at the Lion Footprint Forum atWalt Disney World® Resort, the first meeting of its kind in 20 years, aimed at expanding collaboration to grow conservation impact. Participants from 18 countries and representing more than 50 organizations and foundations discussed challenges impacting lion populations across lion range countries and strategies to address them. Resulting ideas and project proposals will be considered for support through the LRF.

“The Lion Recovery Fund has a vision to bring lions back across Africa, and Disney’s powerful storytelling is a perfect way to get even more people aware of the lion crisis and inspired to take action,” said Charles Knowles, President and Co-Founder of Wildlife Conservation Network. “The Wildlife Conservation Network is proud to continue its longstanding collaboration with Disney to make a meaningful impact for people and wildlife across Africa.”
Help Protect the Pride
It takes many different approaches, which differ by regions, habitats, and local communities, to help protect lion populations. Fans can explore The Lion King Protect the Pride website to learn more about The Lion King Protect the Pride campaign and find ways that they can get involved, including:
  • This summer, take part in Protect the Pride lion-related Disney experiences celebrating WCN’s LRF, like the Kilimanjaro Safaris®Expedition at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park in Florida during opening week of The Lion King film (July 19-25); purchase special-edition Simba and Nala plush lions available at certain Disney stores, on shopDisney.com, and in select U.S. Disney Parks and Resorts locations; Disney Theatrical Productions will celebrate with audiences on Broadway during the month of July, providing campaign information in Playbills® for The Lion King; learn about the history of Disney’s commitment to conservation in films and Disney Publishing Worldwide’s support of the campaign through The Art and Making of The Lion King book. Disney is supporting these and other global opportunities in South Africa, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and the United States. Disney.com/LionKingProtectThePride
