Killer Shrimp brings killa seafood to Hermosa Beach

Sasaki Time was recently invited to try out Killer Shrimp in Hermosa Beach. My friend Matt and I met up with Danielle (Director of Communication for Killer Shrimp) for dinner. The Hermosa Beach location is literally a hop, skip and a jump from the ocean and believe it or not, the food outshines the view.

We started with the signature Killer Shrimp dish that they prepare six different ways. We went with the shelled version. The enormous and delicious shrimp bathe in a spicy broth made from a secret blend of ingredients. You also get this massive portion of french bread to soak up the broth.

Look at the size of the shrimp! Juicy and full of flavor will make you order this dish time and time again!

We also got an order of the Crab Fries. Think of a generous portion of In 'N Out's Animal Style Fries topped with crab and you have one of the most amazing dishes ever!

Danielle ordered these amazing Buffalo Cauliflower 'Wings'. Dipping them into the ranch and buffalo sauce it truly emulates the flavor of Buffalo chicken. An amazingly delicious and healthy dish.

What would a beach front location restaurant be without some amazing cocktails? You can't go wrong with any of these amazing drinks. Starting with the top left we have the Pieces of Eight, a delicious blend of Cruzan Aged Rum, passion fruit syrup, fresh pineapple and fresh lime. On the top right is the Shrimp Killa, a killer combination of Atlantico Reserve Rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice and freshly grated nutmeg. On the bottom right is the Passion Killer which skillfully combines Olmeca Altos Tequila, passion fruit, housemade Curacao, fresh lime juice and jalapeno for a spicy kick. Last but not least in the bottom left corner is the Dark & Stormy, a dangerously strong but smooth drink that blends Gosling's Black Seal Rum, housemade ginger beer and fresh lime.

Moving onto the main courses, Matt got the garlic shrimp & clams. Matt loved this dish and thought the squid ink linguine paired nicely with the seafood in a delicious buttery sauce.

I went with the blackened salmon filet. This is truly my new favorite dish. The salmon was tender and fatty so it literally melted in my mouth. The maple and brown butter sweet potatoes and the wilted spinach go perfectly with the salmon.

We were so full from our meal but we had to make room for dessert! First up was the delicious fresh baked chocolate chip cookie with vanilla bean ice cream and hot fudge.

Next was the dense housemade cheesecake with a praline caramel drizzle. Easily one of the best cheesecakes I have ever tasted outside of New York.

But the overall winner was the housemade (notice how much of what we had was housemade?) sweet potato pecan pie! This is a true original and can only be found here at Killer Shrimp. The combination is truly heavenly and it's like two amazing desserts combined into one. I also loved the housemade whipped cream. Sell me a whole pie please!

Writing this review is making me hungry again! I cannot wait to try more of their dishes! Fabulous service combined with amazing food and drinks will make you a loyal fan! Oh, and if you aren't a seafood fan they also make some expertly prepared steaks, pork chops and chicken breasts! Perhaps their next location will be down here in the Orange County area? One can always dream!
