The latest on what the New Year's Eve Surprise Announcement can be:

How many months have 29 days? All of them if it happens to be a leap year and that aspect of 2012 seems to be the cornerstone of what Disney Parks and Resorts is billing as a big New Year’s Eve ‘surprise announcement.’ Leave it to Disney Parks to schedule and pre-premote their spontaneous surprises.
The internet buzz around the surprise announcement, which is anticipated to be revealed live on the ABC television network on December 31 during ‘Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve’ television event. The announcement was first revealed through a news update on the official Walt Disney World site under a headline promoting 2012 as ‘The Year of More Magic.’ With quite a bit to highlight in 2012, including the first phase opening of the New Fantasyland Magic Kingdom expansion, it’s plain to see that Walt Disney World is ready to make every day count in the upcoming year.
But what’s good for the goose is good for the gander and the Disneyland Resort has plenty to celebrate in 2012 itself in that regard, in particular the Disney California Adventure re-do and expansion with Cars Land. And that’s why they too are part of the big New Year’s Eve ‘surprise announcement’ according to this update which offers to get 2012 off to a magical start.
So just what does Disney Parks and Resorts have up their sleeves? Guesses have run rampant across the net, though most appear to be Walt Disney World-centric (as the Disneyland portion seems to have been lost along the way). The most likely ‘surprise’ is that both the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts will be open for 24 hours on February 28 – 29. Not only is this without precedent, but this thread on Micechat, which claims the news came from a source inside The Walt Disney Travel Company, was posted weeks before the Walt Disney World (and subsequent Disneyland) pre-announcements were made.
