Movie Review: Experiencing Captain Marvel in ScreenX

I was invited to check out a screening of Captain Marvel in the ScreenX format. For those of you not familiar with this format, ScreenX is the world's first multi-projection theatre technology that creates a 270-degree viewing angle of the movie you are watching.

Before the movie started, there is a video that explains how the ScreenX format works. While you are focused on what is taking place on the main screen, the side walls have projections on them to create an immersive experience. Think of this as similar to a VR experience.

Once the movie starts, the immersive factor takes hold. The action sequences are stunning in ScreenX. If there is anything that breaks the feeling of immersion is that the effect does not last for the entire movie. I found myself having to re-acclimate myself each time the side walls came on.

Take a look at the below video to see how ScreenX compares to a regular screen.

ScreenX is an interesting concept and I encourage you to experience it for yourself. I hope in the future the format can be extended for the entire movie.
