Seasalt Woodfire Grill Brings Santa Maria-Style BBQ to Huntington Beach

Santa Maria-Style BBQ is one of my all-time favorites and it's great to see it here in the OC. Seasalt Woodfire Grill brings this style of cooking to Huntington Beach. What sets this style of cooking apart is cooking meat seasoned with sea salt blends over red oak coals.

The bar has farm crafted cocktails, wines and a good selection of locally crafted beers. The first cocktail we tried was the The Grilled Pina which has tequila, pineapple and jalapeno. A great blend of flavors and I loved the kick of the jalapenos.

The second cocktail we tried was the The Boozy Horchata which has vanilla vodka, spiced rum and horchata. I am a huge horchata fan and this cocktail won me over with it's flavor and smoothness.

The Smoked Pork Belly Mac N Cheese is simply quite amazing. The smokiness of the pork belly goes perfectly with the mac n cheese.

When in doubt, you try all the various cuts of steak they bring out. The tri-tip, ribeye and the New York strip are all amazing and melt in your mouth delicious!

Take a look at the 28 oz bone-in ribeye. Doesn't it just make your mouth water?

Some of the most flavorful ribs I have ever experienced.

The linguisa is unreal. So much flavor and spice that will keep you coming back for more and more.

Even the seafood offerings are rubbed in the unique sea salts. The shrimp is perfectly grilled and salted.

The jumbo tiger prawns and snow crab is unbelievable. You won't want to share what's on your plate.

The last cocktail we tried was the Salty Hog which has vodka, grapefruit and bacon. A great blend of sour and salt. Typically not a flavor combination I typically would enjoy but this has changed my mine.

We ended the meal with this delicious vanilla ice cream with Central Coast Olive Oil and topped with black lava seasalt. The flavors blend together seamlessly for a totally unique experience. The perfect ending to our meal.

So, if you love Santa Maria style BBQ or just interested in experiencing it (and you will love it), then head to Seasalt Woodfire Grill. It will be an unforgettable meal from start to finish.

Restaurant Review: Donut Bar in Fountain Valley! The Best Donuts in the OC?

As many of you know, I LOVE donuts! I am always looking for the next great donut place! This is the Donut Bar in Fountain Valley! Check out the donuts above! They make everything in house! Everything is made fresh daily! The donut options also change from a day to day basis! Luckily their Facebook page shows you the donuts they will have the next day! And when they sell out, they are done for the day!

The donuts above and starting with those at the top are two kinds of red velvet donuts! One is a red velvet cake donut and the other is red velvet glazed donut! Then a strawberry split and their gluten-free donut of the day a banana caramel donut. The bottom one is a salted caramel donut! All are amazing! None of the donuts are heavy. They are all light and fluffy. They offer a different gluten-free donut every day unlike some places that only offer them once a week.
In the next box we have a fresh blueberry donut to the upper left and a creme brulee donut right below that. The giant donut is a raspberry pistachio donut! All were so good and fresh! All these donuts were also light and fluffy! You are going to be hard pressed to just pick one or two donuts!
The bottom box here has a maple bacon bar, a mud pie donut, the cherry in the middle is the root beer float donut (yes it really does taste like a root beer float), and the last one is the amazing bourbon maple donut! The glaze is maple bourbon and you will taste the bourbon! Oh yes, you will taste the bourbon! They should almost card you before they sell you one!
The Donut Bar also carries some great drinks to wash down those donuts with! Check out the Stumptown coffee I have here! One of the best coffee places provides coffee to accompany these amazing donuts!
Check out the drink list! Do you see what I see? That's right milk on tap! You know I am going to have to try some of that!
Delicious chocolate milk is on tap! So is the strawberry milk that they mix milk with strawberries in house! If you ask you can get a Neapolitan milk like the one you see in the above photo!
They also have this massive chalk board where you can write down suggestions for new donuts or simply tell the Donut Bar how awesome they are!

Amazingly fresh donuts with fantastic flavors and great coffee and milk! Plus, awesome employees make this the best donut place in the entire OC! Get there early as they have limited hours! Also, on the weekends they have special donuts for kids. One donut per child and adults can buy these fun cartoon character donuts!

Maple Bacon Cookie Dough Truffles Recipe!

Makes 42 truffles

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter, softened to room temperature
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 (14 ounce) can condensed milk
1 tablespoon maple syrup
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup candied bacon, chopped
1 lb dark dipping chocolate

Directions:

1 Great recipe for bacon candy! http://www.food.com/recipe/brown-sugar-bacon-candy-326739.

2 Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment or wax paper.

3 Using a large standing mixer, cream the butter and the sugar together until light and fluffy.

4 Add the condensed milk and maple syrup and beat until well-mixed, then add the flour and salt and beat on low until combined. Stir in bacon.

5 Using a small scoop or a teaspoon, scoop up small round balls of the dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Refrigerate for one hour. Remove from fridge and roll into balls. Place back in fridge for another hour.

6 Melt chocolate in double boiler, in the microwave or, as I prefer, in a Crock Pot on low. Dip balls one at a time and coat evenly. [I tried dumping a bunch in the Crock Pot at once but they get soft fast. Alternatively, you could put the balls in the freezer for a few minutes before dipping first so they get good and cold.] Remove them with a fork and tap against the side of the pot to remove any excess chocolate. Place back on baking sheet and top with a piece of candied bacon, if desired.

7 Put truffles back in fridge until firm. Store in fridge. Enjoy!

Here Is a Burger With 1,050 Piece of Bacon On It!

Apparently Burger King Japan chargs 100 Yen to put 15 slices of bacon on your hamburger. This guy went ahead and got them to put 1,050 slices on it. So, math nerds, if 15 slices cost 100 Yen, then this guy paid about 7,000 Yen or US$85.82 for all that bacon. Check out the above video!

The Secret of Burger King's New Menu: Bacon

Burger King USA has been debuting some new items that ought to appeal to a more discerning, adult, crowd. One of these is the Chef's Choice Burger (pictured above), a 5.5-oz patty with bacon, American cheese, vegetables, and sauce on an "artisan bun". It goes along with the new fries, which differ from the old fries in that the salt is not so overbearing. They're also thicker.
Two years ago, some bacon devotees voiced their objections to Burger King's bacon, putting it in last place among fast-food chains. As executive chef John Koch readily admits now, "The old one didn't deliver a whole lot of bacon flavor."
Fortunately, that has changed. Burger King's new bacon was thick, crisp, and fully cooked, my three requirements for bacon. Koch explained what makes it so much better: It's naturally smoked, brought into the store, and roasted in an in-house oven.
The Chef's Choice burger doesn't exactly redefine the genre, but thanks to that bacon and some fresh veggies, it actually tasted like something you'd find at a higher-priced burger joint.
