Fall Dapper Day 2018 at Disneyland: My Favorite Dapper Bounds

One of my favorite things to do at Dapper Day is to see what everyone else is wearing! Here are some of my favorite Dapper Bounds from Fall Dapper Day 2018! Since I went as Dapper Spider-Man it should come as no surprise that I mostly took photos with other Dapper folks in Marvel-ous Bounds!

We start first with my lovely friends the Cosplay Parents who went as both Mickey Mouse and Mickey Mouse for his 90th Birthday this year!

The first Marvel Dapper Bound I encountered was this fantastic Captain Marvel! Look for Captain Marvel in theaters March 2019!

Ran into my lovely friend Sara and her boyfriend who were Dapper Bounding as that super adorable couple from the Disney animated short Paperman.

I had to stop and take a photo with this amazing Marvel-ous family! You have Spider-Man on the left, then Black Panther, then probably the cutest Thanos ever and then Captain America!

Dapper Spider-Man Suited Up By OppoSuits Swings Into Fall Dapper Day 2018

As many of you know, Dapper Day is one of my favorite events at The Disneyland Resort. It happens twice a year, one in Spring and the other in Fall.

What is Dapper Day? Dapper Day was created to celebrate the tradition of stepping out in style. When people would put on their Sunday best and head outside!

Over the years Dapper Day has not only welcomed those that dress Dapper but people who have been combining Disney Bounding, which one wears colors and accessories to emulate Disney characters without perfectly recreating their costumes which would be considered cosplay, with Dapper and creating what is called Dapper Bounding. I am a huge fan of Dapper Bounding and always thinking of what character in the Disney Universe to create in a Dapper Bounding style.

So, let's follow the adventures of Dapper Spider-Man in this amazing suit by OppoSuits! The fedora came from Amazon and the umbrella was hand painted by my friend Samantha!

Many of you are already familiar with the origins of Spider-Man. Peter Parker was bit by a radiaoactive spider and soon Peter began to notice he possessed new powers.

Dapper Spider-Man on the other hand was given great power the moment he donned the OppoSuits Spider-Man Suit!

But Dapper Spider-Man also knew that with great power came great responsibility. His hero Walt Disney knew this and created a magical world for people from around the world to enjoy.

Tony Stark then recruited Dapper Spider-Man to provide him with greater opportunities to his powers for good!

Vehicle Review: 2018 Mazda6 Signature - Fall Dapper Day at Disneyland

The 2018 Mazda6 Signature takes the midsize sedan market and completely redefines it. While the Mazda6 should be compared with the Toyota Camry or the Honda Accord, we could easily compare it with the Audi A4 or the Acura TLX. While the Audi or the Acura will never compare itself to the Mazda6, a similar equipped Acura TLX would cost about $5,000 more and a comparable Audi A4 would cost around $50,000.

The Mazda6 2.5-liter turbocharged engine never works that hard to provide all the power one needs. It has 310 lb-ft of torque and yet still offers great fuel economy. The Mazda6 26 MPG combined actually came in higher during my review period at 30 MPG.

The interior is comparable to both the Acura and the Audi. The rich Napa leather seats are both heated and cooled. The Signature edition also has a heated steering wheel. The remote interface controls for the infotainment system are very similar to the Audi's.

The infotainment screen is large and I love the overhead view of the vehicle.

The Mazda6 Signature was the perfect vehicle to attend Fall Dapper Day at Disneyland. Dapper Day is held twice a year and started as a way to celebrate when people went out in their Sunday best attire. Over the years it has grown to represent any time period of "Best Dressed" and includes Dapper Bounding, which combines Dapper attire with colors and accessories to emulate characters in the Disney Universe. This Dapper Day I went as the one and only Spider-Man in an amazing suit from OppoSuits.

The trunk space is massive. There is a full spare tire and a larger trunk space than the Audi A4. The trunk space might be needed for all the bad guys I catch.

One of my favorite things about Dapper Day is meeting friends such as Steven and Millie otherwise known as the CosPlayParents. Here they are as Mickey Mouse and Mickey Mouse in honor of Mickey's 90th birthday.

And making new friends is another great part about Dapper Day!

The sleek looks of the Mazda6 were equaled by its handling. Steering was very responsive and the vehicle gripped the road. Large adaptive LED headlights are something not usually found at this price point. Tony Stark would approve of this vehicle to take care of his protege Peter Parker.

Speaking of Mr. Stark, it looks like he has bought some land in Disney California Adventure. I wonder what Marvel-ous plans he has?

Even the real Spider-Man was impressed with my suit.

The Mazda6 Signature is a premium sedan in every sense of the word. Coming in at $36,140, the great looks and performance at a great price point move this to the head of the mainstream midsized sedan class.

Superhero approved!

Spring Dapper Day 2018 at Disneyland - 2 Days of Pixar Dapper Bounding

So while Spring Dapper Day at Disneyland was on Sunday, Charlotte and I celebrated the entire weekend with two additional Pixar inspired Dapper Bounds! The best part is that we had planned these way before they announced Pixar Fest so it was meant to be!

Charlotte found this amazing lime green fabric filled and decorated with luxo lamps that she made into a dress for herself and a matching camp shirt for me! It made for a perfect 1950s inspired Pixar bound! Charlotte hand painted her parsol, made her ears and added a working mini luxo lamp on my straw fedora.

Our 1950s inspired Pixar bounds fit in perfectly with Lightning McQueen in Cars Land!

The next Pixar bound was Charlotte who made a custom dress to look like Andy's room from Toy Story. She hand painted the fabric and handmade all of the Toy Story characters on her dress. Her purse is the toy box. I was a Dapper Buzz Lightyear with a clear umbrella to look like Buzz's helmet and Charlotte created a custom band for my fedora to show off all of Buzz's buttons that are on his chest.

We had to pay a visit to Buzz and Woody and they loved our outfits! I love all the photos we took with them!

Perhaps my favorite photo with both Buzz and Woody is this random photo that looks like it was staged!

Over at Disneyland they had a lot of fun props to take photos with!

Such a fun couple of days with Charlotte and also thankful for all the love we both received on our outfits! Hope you enjoyed out photos from Spring Dapper Day Weekend 2018 at The Disneyland Resort!

Spring Dapper Day 2018 - Classic Black and White Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse

For Spring Dapper Day 2018, Charlotte and I decided upon classic black and white Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Charlotte created some amazing one of a kind accessories for us including my hand painted music playing tie, our amazing hats and her wonderful hand painted parasol.

No better place to start our day than at the Main Street Cinema and our first cartoon Steamboat Willie.

This is my traditional Dapper Day photo! Happy to have Charlotte now be part of that tradition as well!

My awesome custom umbrella from the always awesome Matt and Amanda!

Vehicle Review: 2017 Toyota Prius V Five - Dapper Day at Disneyland

It time for another vehicle review and this time it is the 2017 Toyota Prius V Five. This is my first time reviewing a Toyota and I was very excited to get into the review! The vehicle is a wagon and easily the largest of the Prius family. The 17-inch alloy wheels are standard on this model.

Adding to the excitement was the fact that it arrived just in time for Dapper Day at Disneyland! While an unofficial day at the parks, it is one of the largest attended events at the park! People come in dressed up in vintage clothing from any era or they do what we do and that is called Disney Bounding! Disney Bounding is creating a look that emulates a Disney character without actually dressing up like them which would be cosplay.

The Toyota Prius V Five has more than enough cargo space to hold all of our accessories as we head to day one of Spring Dapper Day at Disneyland! Dapper Day is Sunday but a lot of people are in town and make a weekend of it. So My friend Erin and I went on Saturday.

Erin and I went and Indiana Jones and of course we took photos at the Indiana Jones Adventure attraction in Disneyland! Our fertility idol replica from Raiders of The Lost Ark got a lot of compliments as did we on our outfit choices!

Overlooking the vast jungle I wondered what adventures awaited us today! This was taken in Tarzan's Treehouse!

Erin and I then traveled by small plane to our next destination! The small plane is located next to Soarin' Around The World in Disney California Adventure.

Fall Dapper Day 2017 at Disneyland: Indiana Jones Bound on Saturday

As many of you know, I love Dapper Day and when my friend Erin told me she was in town for a day to hang out at Disneyland and wanted to Disney Bound, of course I said yes! She wanted to do an Indiana Jones bound and I was happy to comply! We hit the parks early and it gave us plenty of time to get some awesome photos that look like the park is totally empty!

The truck here is actually from Raiders of The Lost Ark! You can find this at the entrance to the Indiana Jones, Temple of The Forbidden Eye attraction!

We had to recreate the iconic entrance of Indy in Marion's bar from Raiders of The Lost Ark!

I have recovered the idol! Hopefully there isn't a large boulder on it's way behind me!

A quiet moment in the jungle gives me time to reflect on what further adventures await me!

“What Does Dapper Day Mean to You?” – Reflecting on the Dapper Day Experience by Kristen Nichols

What Does Dapper Day Mean to You?” – Reflecting on the Dapper Day Experience

By now my love of Dapper Day at Disneyland is widely known and has been thoroughly documented in pictures. With each passing season the outfits become more intricate and creative. This past weekend was Spring Dapper Day 2017 at the Disneyland Resort. As has become tradition, Sasaki Time was in attendance with our generous and talented photographer Kevin, Disneybounding as Carl and Ellie from Pixar’s Up! We had an amazing weekend, as usual, and in addition to our usual photo coverage I wanted to turn my focus outward to the other Dapper Day attendees who make this bi-annual tradition so incredible. As we strolled around the parks I posed a simple question to other Dapper folks, “What does Dapper Day mean to you?” I had the pleasure of speaking with many different people throughout the day to gain a 360 degree view of Dapper Day, from 1st time attendees to an employee of the Dapper Day organization.

The Dapper Day Story

The first Dapper Day was held at Disneyland in 2011 and in the following years branched out to Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland Paris. Both Spring and Fall Dapper Days have been held every year. According to David McCarthy of the Dapper Day organization (@davidfordisney), “Dapper Day loves to celebrate vintage and current fashion and let people express themselves with any kind of fashion they would like to.” In addition to their Disney Parks events, Dapper Day hosts events around the LA area at places like Clifton’s and the LACMA. Dapper Day is its own brand and remains a separate entity from Disney Parks. Despite the fact that Dapper Days remain unofficial and are not affiliated with Disney Parks, that doesn’t stop them from joining in on the fun. This season various photo spots were set up around the parks where cast members took guest’s photos holding retro-inspired photo frames. Character costumes also appear to be themed for Dapper Day, such as Mickey wearing his Dapper Dan attire. David McCarthy revealed the parks in Orlando also have planned themed food offerings for the Spring 2017 season (April 29th and 30th) such as picnic lunches, themed cupcakes, and even fresh boutonnieres. There are also additional events such as the Dapper Day Expo at Disneyland and Justin, the creator of Dapper Day, will be making a rare appearance for a meet and greet Saturday April 29th in the Emporium at the Magic Kingdom. The Dapper Day brand has done a fantastic job of creating events, both inside and outside the parks, helping to create a strong sense of camaraderie and community for Disney and fashion fans alike.

Dressed to the Nines

Dapper Day is intended as a call back to a time when going to the parks was a special occasion and people dressed accordingly. David McCarthy compared Dapper Day to looking at the original concept drawings and early photos of Disneyland “with everyone dressed to the nines even though it’s hot.” While there’s nothing wrong with the shorts, t-shirts, and tennis shoes that have become the uniform of a Disney Parks day, one of the things people consistently love about Dapper Day is having the ability to dress up! Darcy Prevost (@darcyeprevost) called Dapper Day “a slice of history” recalling a time when “everybody cared about what they put on.” Victoria Matautia (@toriam16) was attending her first Dapper Day and said her favorite so far has been that on Dapper Day dressing up is the norm when on any other day it would be weird to see someone dressed up in the parks.

Community, Camaraderie, and Creativity

One of the things I have, personally, always adored about Dapper Day is the strong sense of support and community that surrounds these events. Creativity, camaraderie, and coming together were common themes among those I interviewed. No one is a stranger on Dapper Day. Complimenting the outfit of a perfect stranger is not only acceptable but encouraged. Jeanine Ringer (@mrsringer) shared that one of her favorite things is “appreciating the effort and creativity that [other attendees] put into it.” James of @jameschatstv said Dapper Day is a “wonderful day to express yourself, get into the Disney spirit, and get creative”. Alex Ryser (@lex_ryser) at the park for her 4th Dapper Day outing said, “My favorite part is coming together for a whole group Disneybound. It’s a day to be together, bond, and have fun.”

Here are some of the other sentiments that fellow park goers shared with me:

Shawn Rios (@cravaliershawn @riosoriginals): “Dapper Day is an opportunity to express creativity but also to connect. In my group there are a wide array of instagramers, cosplayers, designers, people who appreciate vintage [fashion] and it represents an opportunity to bring those many many different backgrounds together in a way that show a similar interest and appreciate each other.”

Taylor Simonds (@taylor_on_tour): “It’s my favorite day of the year! I love having an excuse to dress up.” “It’s amazing to feel beautiful but more importantly I love all the people I’ve met through this. It’s such a wonderful community of people. It’s so easy to instantly spot someone [on Dapper Day] and know that you’re like minded, that you also care about fashion and aesthetic and Disney and looking and feeling your best. It’s such an easy way to make friends with people that have the same interests as you.”

Final Thoughts

David McCarthy on behalf of Dapper Day added, “Dapper Day loves to see everyone’s marvelous styles and see everyone make it their own. We look forward to seeing you out in the parks in the future and at our outside events in your most stylish attire whether it be current or vintage.”

Our ensembles for Fall Dapper Day 2017 are already in the works and we can’t wait to share them with you. Fall Dapper Day at Disneyland is scheduled for November 4th and 5th of this year. Go to dapperday.com for more information.
