Apple Pie Nachos Recipe

Ingredients:

Crispas

  • 2 tortillas
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups vegetable oil

Apple Pie Mix

  • 2 baking apples, diced into 1/2 inch pieces
  • 4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 ounce Amaretto

Toppings

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup pecans, chopped

Directions:

  1. 1
Heat oil until it "speaks" when you sprinkle water into it. Cut each tortilla in half, then cut each half into 4 wedges.
  2. 2
Mix cinnamon and sugar in a shallow dish with another paper towel lined dish right next to it.
  3. 3
Put 2-4 tortilla wedges into the hot oil and cook until light brown on each side, flipping only once (this should take about 1 minute). Remove immediately from oil one by one and completely cover in cinnamon sugar mixture on both sides before placing on towel lined dish to cool and drain.
  4. 4
When finished with crispas, toss together diced apples and lemon juice.
  5. 5
Put apples, lemon juice and amaretto into a medium-sized skillet and cook over medium heat until apples just start to get tender and barely break down.
  6. 6
Add brown sugar and stir well until evenly distributed. Remove pan from heat.
  7. 7
Beat heavy whipping cream (works best in a chilled bowl) just until stiff.
  8. 8
Gradually add sugar and vanilla and beat until stiff peaks form.
  9. 9
On a plate or platter, set out each crispa individually. Top with a teaspoon or more of apple mixture, then a dollop of whipped cream. Sprinkle with chopped pecans.

Review - Second Screen Live: The Nightmare Before Christmas!

One of my favorite movies has been brought back in a completely fun and interactive way! The Nightmare Before Christmas has added Second Screen Live for the iPad!

My friend Daisy and I are already veterans of Second Screen Live having gone to check out The Little Mermaid last month when they were offering this unique way of "breaking the rules" to use our iPads to play games, trivia and sing-a-long in real time with the movie! This time however we also brought some friends! This is such a great way to have fun with your friends and everyone else in the theatre!
We are just about ready to start!

The games are harder than they were for The Little Mermaid but I figure this is because the audience is an older one for The Nightmare Before Christmas!
An example of one of the trivia questions!

Another one of the games we get to play during the movie!
It's sing-a-long time! It's ok to sing as loud as you can!

Just like The Little Mermaid you are placed on a team! I was on the Jack Skellington Team! We were easily in the lead for the entire movie!

More fun games to play and earn points!
Time to roll the dice!
I didn't hit the jackpot on this version of slots!
I was the winner! We had such a great time and can't wait to do this again! I hope Disney adds this to more of their animated movies! If they do I will be in line each and every time!

So, bring your iPad, download the app (Download the Second Screen Live: The Nightmare Before Christmas app (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/disney-second-screen-live/id705337245?ls=1&mt=8) and head to these select theaters for this fun, interactive movie experience!

Second Screen Live: The Nightmare Before Christmas will play in the following theaters:

Apple Pie Bars Recipe!

What you'll need

  • FOR THE CRUST:
  • 2-1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • Milk (about 2/3 cup)
  • FOR THE FILLING:
  • 1-3/4 cups cornflakes
  • 8 cups peeled and sliced cooking apples (see first tip below)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • FOR THE TOPPINGS:
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Helpful Tip:
● Sandy's apple of choice for this recipe is McIntosh. "They cook up soft, and the taste can range from very tart to sweet, which is great."
● If the pastry begins to brown too quickly, before the bars are fully cooked, and there are at least 20 minutes of baking time left, Sandy recommends covering the crust with foil to keep it golden brown.

How to make it

  1. In a medium-size bowl, stir together the flour and salt. Using a pastry blender or two knives, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture is crumbly. Separate the egg yolk and white, reserving both parts. Beat the yolk in a liquid measuring cup, then add enough milk to measure 2/3 cup and blend well. With a fork, stir together the yolk-milk mixture and flour mixture until the ingredients form a sticky dough. Halve the dough and flatten each half into a 3/4-inch-thick disk. Cover the disks in plastic wrap and refrigerate them until well chilled, at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Pour the cornflakes into a plastic bag and use a rolling pin to lightly crush them.
  3. On a sheet of waxed paper, roll one portion of dough into a 15-1/2- by 10-1/2-inch rectangle. Transfer the dough to an ungreased 15- by 10-inch jelly roll pan. Sprinkle the crushed cereal over the dough, then layer on the apple slices.
  4. Roll out the remaining dough as in Step 3. In a small bowl, mix the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg for the filling. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples, then lay the dough on top. Use the tines of a fork to seal the dough edges.
  5. In a small bowl, use a fork to beat the reserved egg white until foamy, then brush it over the dough. In another small bowl, stir together the sugar and cinnamon for the topping and sprinkle it on the crust.
  6. Bake the pastry until lightly browned, about 50 to 55 minutes. Let it cool for an hour, then mix the confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make a glaze and drizzle it over the top. When the dish has completely cooled, cut it into bars and serve.

Apple’s CEO Steve’s passing one year ago today was a sad and difficult time for all of us. I hope that today everyone will reflect on his extraordinary life and the many ways he made the world a better place. One of the greatest gifts Steve gave to the world is Apple. No company has ever inspired such creativity or set such high standards for itself. Our values originated from Steve and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. iPhone 5 Concept

An Italian designer, Federico Ciccarese, created a mock-up of of a potential new design based off the latest wave of iPhone 5 rumors.

The design mock-ups illustrate a sleek, curved back- not too different from Apple’s current Magic Mouse. The front display is flat, of course, and the back appears to be blasted aluminum.. The headphone jack has been moved to the side to accomodate the tapered new design. The back features a snazzy glowing Apple logo.

Apple To Offer Either $15 Or A Free Bumper Case In Final Settlement Of The iPhone 4 ‘Antennagate’ Case

A class-action lawsuit over the iPhone 4's troublesome antenna, aka Antennagate, has been settled. The planned resolution will net US residents who bought one either $15 in cash or a free bumper case. This affects some 25 million people who will be notified by email and through print ads in USA Today and Macworld. Once they've received the heads up, they can go to www.iPhone4Settlement.com (not up and running yet) to register their claims. When the issue first came up in 2010 Apple suggested holding it differently before saying it would tweak its signal display formulas and, eventually, offering the free cases.

Update: An Apple representative confirmed that the settlement is for those customers who chose not to take a free case or return their phone back in 2010.

The Reason Why Siri Port For iPhone 4 And iPod touch Isn’t Available To Public Yet

One of the two developers behind the Siri port for iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G has come up with an official response to one of the jailbreaking community’s most frequently asked questions: “Siri appears to be working fine on older iOS devices, why has the port not been released yet?”

In order to understand the basic reason why Siri can’t be ported to the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G, we must first understand how copyright law works: as Apple, Inc. created all software and data that is inside a iOS device, they own the copyrights to them and, as such, this software and data cannot be modified and distributed without legal consent from Apple. Siri, too, is part of the software and data that resides in an iOS device such as the iPhone 4S and third-party developers do not have the legal right to publicly distribute modified versions of it.

That was the legal reason why the Siri port for iPhone 4 / iPod touch 4G can’t be released yet. The technical reason behind it is how you have to be in possession of a jailbroken iPhone 4S in order to get Siri to send data to Apple’s servers and for them to accept and process it. As Troughton-Smith said yesterday, a “validation token” has to be taken live from a jailbroken iPhone 4S and, because of this requirement, there isn’t any point of releasing the port because if you have an iPhone 4S, you already have Siri and don’t need it on your iPhone 4.

So what are the chances of Siri port for iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G actually releasing? Not all that high, I'm afraid: chpwn on his blog says it won’t be possible until they can find a way to get Siri to talk to Apple’s servers without requiring a jailbroken iPhone 4S and that doesn’t seem to be on the cards yet. We do, however, have a lot of faith in the jailbreaking community and believe they will eventually come up with a solution.
When we have the ability to decrypt the encrypted iPhone 4S firmware file — to extract the Siri files legally, without the need for an iPhone 4S — and we have an iPhone 4S jailbreak to obtain the other nececssary information at a mass scale, hopefully this can become a reality and everyone can try out Siri on their older devices. Until then, showing you a video that it is possible is the best we can do.

Apple Posts Steve Jobs Celebration Video from October 19th

Apple has posted a video from the Steve Jobs memorial/celebration held on Apple's campus on October 19th, 2011. The 80 minute video is available on Apple's site. All of the retail stores were closed during the event so that everyone could watch. Apple CEO Tim Cook opens the video:

"The last two weeks for me have been the saddest in my life by far. But I know Steve. And Steve would have wanted this cloud to lift for Apple and our focus to return to the work that he loved so much. So it's with that spirit, that we wanted to get the entire company together today to celebrate Steve's extraordinary life and many accomplishments he had across his life."

Update: It seems to not be working for some. (Note that streaming video requires Safari 4 or 5 on Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Lion, Safari on iOS 3 or later, or QuickTime 7 on Windows.)

California governor declares October 16 as Steve Jobs Day

California governor declares October 16 as Steve Jobs Day

California gov Brown dedicates day to Jobs

California governor Jerry Brown declared that Sunday, October 16th would be Steve Jobs Day for the state. While strictly for observance and not time off, it would give the late Apple co-founder a treatment normally reserved for non-corporate heroes. The day coincides with a private memorial at Stanford and may be synchronized.
Jobs' receiving a special day, even if minor, reflects sentiments that Jobs was a boon to California. He helped establish the modern concept of Silicon Valley and shifted attention to the state after redefining the computer, MP3 player, smartphone, and tablet markets during his lifetime. Companies like Microsoft and Nokia that once were content to stay in their home states or countries but eventually put at least a satellite presence in California to understand the culture Apple helped create.

Directly, Jobs' fostering Apple's record growth led to about 20,000 jobs at Apple corporate, the largest portion of which works out of California, and brought breakthrough revenue into the state, even if only some of it is taxed locally.

Apple Sells Out of iPhone 4S Pre-Order Stocks for Launch Day in U.S.

From Mac Rumors
Friday October 7, 2011 10:29 pm PDT by Eric Slivka
Following the lead of international pre-orders, new orders for the iPhone 4S made through Apple's U.S. online store are now listed with shipping estimates of 1-2 weeks, indicating that the door has closed on the opportunity for customers to pre-order the device through Apple for launch day delivery.

Demand for the iPhone 4S appears to be very strong, with AT&T having reported that it alone had taken 200,000 orders in the first 12 hours of availability. Apple's online store struggled to keep up with the traffic as pre-orders went live, with company eventually resorting to offering order temporary reservations as connections to carriers' systems to verify eligibility and service plans became overwhelmed. Users who received reservations from Apple in the first few hours of availability have until 5:00 PM Pacific Time on Saturday to return and complete their orders before losing their priority standing.

The iPhone 4S will launch next Friday, October 14th in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
