A new, action-packed trailer for Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania,” which opens in theaters Feb. 17, 2023, just debuted during tonight’s College Football Playoff National Championship. Kicking off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the fast-paced, big-screen adventure features the MCU’s most powerful villain to date: Kang the Conqueror.
Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible. Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige, p.g.a. and Stephen Broussard, p.g.a., “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania” also stars Jonathan Majors as Kang, David Dastmalchian as Veb, Katy O'Brian as Jentorra, William Jackson Harper as Quaz and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar. The sci-fi adventure opens in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
After two epic Marvel movie releases this year, that were heavy on drama, with Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and The Wasp brings us a smaller movie. While it is indeed a smaller film, it also no less important to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will pave the way into next years Avengers 4.
This will be some spoilers in this review.
Ant-Man and The Wasp picks up a few years after the events of Captain America: Civil War. We learn what Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) has been up during that time. And as Ant-Man's involvement in any of the Marvel films has shown us, Ant-Man is most enjoyable when he is surrounded by others much more capable than he is. The main goal of the film isn't even Ant-Man's but something that he is simply helping with.
The lightheartedness of Ant-Man and The Wasp is the breather we needed after such heavy drama in the last two Marvel films. The humor hits on so many levels whether it is character interaction or even in the action sequences.
We start off in the past as Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) retells the sacrifice his wife Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) makes in a scene we saw in Ant-Man. Hank believes that there is a chance that his wife is still alive since Scott returned from the quantum realm when Hank originally didn't believe that anyone could return from there. Scott is recruited to help get Janet back but he is on house arrest as part of his plea bargain he made for his role in Germany that was a direct violation of the Sokovia Accords.
Randall Park is FBI Agent Jimmy Woo who is trying to keep tabs on Scott while also trying to find Hank and Hope who are fugitives from the law for creating the tech that helped Scott become Ant-Man. Meanwhile Hank and Hope are busy putting together a "quantum tunnel" to find Janet. Here the plot thickens as both black market dealer Sonny Burch (Walton Goggins) and Ghost (Hannh John-Kamen) want the tunnel for their own purposes. Also, Hank's one time colleague, Dr. Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne) comes into play to help Hank with the tunnel. Plus, Luis (Michael Pena) and the rest of the crew are back for an added level of humor as well.
The men get the majority of the better one-liners here but the women steal the show. Ghost is a stunning and at times terrifying villain, Janet shines in her brief on-screen time and The Wasp shows that she is worthy of being in the title of a Marvel film.
The action is fast and fierce. The sight gags of being able to have people and vehicles change sizes at the most unexpected times will keep you on your toes. The chemistry between Scott and Hope brings us the buddy/romantic comedy genre into the MCU fold. And not like I need to tell you to stay through the credits but one of the two post-credit scenes will leave you counting down the days until you can see Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 next year.

Time to review the digital copy of Marvel's Ant-Man on Disney Movies Anywhere!
We are immediately introduced to a younger Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) whose particle research is highly sought after by S.H.I.E.L.D. and wait until you see the two characters from the MCU that are here! I want to spoil it but you really should be surprised! Then we shift to San Quentin and meet Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) who is being released from prison. We also learn that he has a daughter Cassie (Abby Ryder Fortson) and a very disapproving ex Maggie (Judy Greer). Scott's former cellmate Luis (Michael Pena) picks him up from prison. Luis is definitely a scene stealer. Luis wants Scott to do one more heist but Scott refuses as he wants to keep his nose clean and reconnect with his daughter. But Scott decides to do this one last heist. Scott finds a one-of-a-kind suit during the heist and takes it with him. Curiosity gets the better of Scott and he tries on the suit only to find that it shrinks him down to the size of an ant. It turns out the heist was all part of the vision of Dr. Hank Pym to make Scott the new Ant-Man. Pym along with his daughter Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) train Scott in how to get the most from his suit. They are training Scott because Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), who Pym was once the mentor to, is now running Pym Technologies and has come up with his own suit. Pym is afraid that this new suit will fall into the wrong hands Now the battle for supremacy is on. Who will win?
The film never takes itself too seriously as the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe tends to do. It works because it never loses sight of what it is - simple and at times silly. But the last of the two end credit tags return you into the serious world that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set in. I won't spoil anything but as always, it's all connected and is leading us into the next Marvel adventure, Captain America: Civil War.
Video Quality:
The video quality is excellent for the digital copy. Images are clean with a fantastic amount of detail. Check out the details on the Ant-Man, Yellowjacket and the Falcon costumes. The detail of Ant-Man;s helmet with all of its scratches and wear and tear on it is terrific. Another great video transfer from Disney.
Audio Quality:
The soundtrack, as to be expected, is big and bold. The rich sound scape fully immerses you into the film. And there is so much fun with the sound due to the various points of view. A suitcase fight is huge then the sound becomes small as the perspective changes. Another fantastic effort from Disney.
Bonus Features:
Featurette: Making of an Ant-Sized Heist: A How-To Guide (1080p, 14:34): A great look at Ant-Man and how he is connected in the MCU, the costume, story, production design, filming locations, cast training, digital effects used in the film, and the future for the character.

Ant-Man is Marvel showcasing a film that is never boring, laugh-out loud funny and still has warmth and heart. Some great bonus material with amazing video and audio quality make this a digital copy you want to add to your collection.
At the last D23 Expo (2013) a group of friends and I were talking about how will Marvel keep changing the game with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and avoid superhero burnout from just too many superhero films. I suggested that they just need to tell stories that fit the various genres of film already out there, the political thriller (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), the space opera (Guardians of the Galaxy) and now the comedy (Ant-Man). But does the comedy work? Read the review and find out.
