Blu-Ray Review: Disney Planes Blu-Ray Combo Pack!

What happens when you explore the world above the world of Cars? You get Planes! The newest movie from DisneyToon Studios!

We are introduced to Dusty Crophopper who dreams of racing and gets his chance to participate in one of the greatest races in the world! But Dusty isn't really built for speed and he is also afraid of heights. Along the way he is supported by his friends, gets mentored by an old war plane and makes some new friends.  They all help Dusty find the courage to overcome the odds.

Video Quality:

The video quality is what you have come to expect from a Disney blu-ray! Crisp and vibrant colors combined with amazing detail! You can see all the textures that provides for a more lifelike experience! Some great wind effects that come off of each plane adds to the sense of flight! You would be hard pressed to know that this spin-off is not made by the folks in Emeryville!

Audio Quality:

The audio is also up Disney's high standards of quality! The dialogue is perfectly clear! The sounds of the planes really bring you into the racing experience! The rear channels are just as active as the front channels here! With planes flying all over the sound field, you feel as if you are in the middle of all the races!

Bonus Features:

  • Exclusive Musical Scene: Franz's Song (HD, 3 minutes): Director Klay Hall and producer Traci Balthazor-Flynn introduce a finished deleted sequence that features the tiny Franz that was cut a t the last minute.
  • Klay's Flight Plan (HD, 16 minutes): This feature showcases Hall's love of airplanes and his personal connection to the film, which he shares with his two sons while taking a look at some of the planes that inspired some of the film's characters.
  • Deleted Scenes (HD, 8 minutes): Two unfinished deleted scenes are shown here: a training montage and a Taj Mahal sequence that was reworked.
  • Meet the Racers (HD, 7 minutes): You get to meet four of the racing planes in the movie: El Chu, Ripslinger, Dusty and Ishani.
  • Top 10 Fliers (HD, 6 minutes): Quickly learn about the top ten real-life fliers of all time.

Overall Thoughts:

A film, that while borrowing heavily from the first Cars film, is still very entertaining. The video and audio presentations are top notch here! The supplements are few but for a film that was suppose to be a direct-to-video only, they aren't bad. A good Holiday gift for your kids!

AMERICAN AIRLINES AND DISNEY LAUNCH HIGH-FLYING COLLABORATION WITH "DISNEY'S PLANES"

LOS ANGELES – Today American Airlines and the Walt Disney Studios announced a strategic collaboration on the upcoming “Disney’s Planes” movie, including a cameo appearance by Tripp -- inspired in part by American’s Boeing 777-300ER, the newest addition to American’s fleet.
Tripp dons the airline’s new look, complete with the company’s newly developed flight symbol and stripes on his tail for a special cameo appearance in the film.
“Disney is a global family brand and working with them gives us a fun opportunity to connect with families who know and love the iconic American Airlines brand,” said Rob Friedman, American’s Vice President – Marketing.  “Through this collaboration, we have a lot of great things planned for this summer, including exciting trip promotions and in-airport activities, so I encourage everyone to stay tuned.”
To kick off the excitement, American and Disney this morning surprised customers traveling through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with gate celebrations and giveaways, including special guest appearances by the film’s director Klay Hall and actor Carlos Alazraqui, who provides the voice of passionate racer El Chupacabra (El Chu) in the film.
In addition, American and Disney today premiered a special version of the “Disney’s Planes” trailer for LAX customers, as well as American’s new custom animated commercial directed by Hall, and developed in conjunction with McCann Worldgroup. In the spot, characters from the movie, including Dusty, El Chu and Tripp, highlight American’s fleet modernization efforts with a comedic flare. American also held the inflight debut of the trailer and commercial spot onboard Flight #2442 from LAX to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The trailer, ad spot and images of Tripp are available for viewing starting today at aa.com/disneyplanes
“I’m a lifelong aviation fan and ‘Disney’s Planes’ has allowed me to explore so many facets of flying,” said Hall. “I think the addition of Tripp to our lineup really adds to the fun, particularly for aviation buffs like me.”
“Disney’s Planes” and Tripp soar into theaters nationwide beginning Aug. 9, 2013.  Leading up to the film’s release, the companies plan to roll out an integrated marketing effort, including collaborated advertising, promotions and inflight entertainment. American will also feature an inflight version of the movie in October, one month earlier than other airlines, as part of American’s continuing effort to provide customers with the latest and most exclusive content.

"DISNEY'S PLANES" SET TO TAKE OFF AT EAA AIRVENTURE OSHKOSH 2013

EAA AIRVENTURE OSHKOSH 2013

Special preview screening set at Fly-In Theater on Friday, August 2

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. – (April 29, 2013) – Everyone knows that Oshkosh becomes the busiest airport in the world the week of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (July 29-August 4), and that airplanes take off all the time … however, 2013 will be a first for some very special planes.
The summer release of “Disney’s Planes,” the animated comedy adventure from above the world of the popular 2006 film “Cars,” has the entire aviation community buzzing!  Those attending AirVenture this year will have the opportunity to experience a Special Preview Screening at the Fly-In Theater on Friday night, August 2, one week before the movie opens in theaters nationwide. “Disney’s Planes” will touch all who see it and help them understand the thrill and excitement that flying offers.
Director and aviation enthusiast Klay Hall says, “‘Disney’s Planes’ is a great underdog story. It has a lot of heart and a message we can all use: If we can believe in ourselves, step out of our comfort zones and get past whatever fear that’s holding us back, we’d be surprised with the results. And that’s exactly what happens to Dusty in this movie. He’s a crop duster who’s never flown above 1,000 feet, but he dreams of being the fastest air racer in the world. He has a lot of obstacles to overcome and needs to dig pretty deep to find the courage to become more than he was built to be. We’re so happy to share the film with the passionate aviation community at AirVenture.”
Prior to the movie, Hall will be present at the screening to talk about the making of “Disney’s Planes,” sharing behind-the-scenes stories and secrets.
“The Fly-In Theater has become a signature event at AirVenture and Ford is delighted to host Dusty and the crew for a screening that no doubt will pack the house,” said Kevin Keling, Director of Global Auto Shows & Events for Ford Motor Company, which each year sponsors the Fly-In Theater presentations.
The special preview screening is included with regular EAA AirVenture admission on Aug. 2. The Fly-In Theater is an outdoor facility with a five-story-high screen and full sound system that presents aviation and other action movies for AirVenture attendees during AirVenture. It is a favorite evening activity for all Oshkosh attendees, especially those from the adjacent Camp Scholler camping area.
Jack Pelton, EAA Chairman of the Board, says “AirVenture is a wonderful family event and we are absolutely thrilled to be a part of the ultimate family experience with this special screening of “Disney’s Planes.”  Dusty will be a real star of AirVenture this year in so many ways. We urge people to make plans now to join us for this special event.”
“Disney’s Planes” features a talented roster of voice talent, including Dane Cook, Brad Garrett, Teri Hatcher, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Stacy Keach and more. “Disney’s Planes” takes off in theaters on Aug. 9, 2013. DANE COOK TAPPED TO VOICE DUSTY IN DISNEY'S PLANES

DANE COOK TAPPED TO VOICE DUSTY IN “DISNEY’S PLANES”
High-Flying Animated Comedy Adventure Soars into Theaters August 9, 2013

BURBANK, Calif. (February 28, 2013) – Dane Cook has been tapped to voice the lead character Dusty, a plane with high hopes in “Disney’s Planes.” Inspired by the world of “Cars” and directed by Disneytoon Studios veteran and aviation enthusiast Klay Hall (“King of the Hill,” “The Simpsons”), “Disney’s Planes” is an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure about Dusty’s dream of competing as a high-flying air racer—and his decidedly unfortunate fear of heights. The film takes off in theaters in 3D on Aug. 9, 2013.

“Dane Cook brings unmatched charisma and brilliant comedic timing and instincts to the character,” said Hall. “He gives Dusty a great edge.”
Cook is well known for his appearances on Comedy Central and HBO specials, and for his successful comedy albums. He recently guest starred on “Louie” opposite Louie C.K., and his film credits include starring roles in a host of films, including “My Best Friend’s Girl” opposite Kate Hudson, “Dan In Real Life” opposite Steve Carell, and “Mr. Brooks” opposite Kevin Costner. The actor/comedian just signed a deal with NBC Entertainment and Universal Television to develop a new project starring Cook.

The all-new story offers an exciting cast of characters and centers on Dusty’s high-flying dream. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing, so he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar. The film is produced by Traci Balthazor-Flynn and executive produced by John Lasseter.
