  3. Instructions for Background Stands:

Craft Time: Handy Manny's Milk Carton Planter

What you'll need

  • 1-gallon paper milk carton
  • Duct tape
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Red marker
  • Red construction paper
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint brush, or sponge
  • Red masking tape or duct tape
  • Red, self-adhesive craft foam
  • Yellow, self-adhesive craft foam
  • Unsharpened pencil
  • Hole punch
  • Black puffy paint
  • Stones or rocks
  • Soil
  • Seeds or plants

How to make it

  1. To start, wash a milk carton with soapy water and let dry.
  2. Step 2AIf your carton has a screw-on cap, leave it on and fold the top of the carton down to create a flat surface.
  3. Step 2BSecure using duct tape.
  4. Step 3To create the tall ends of your toolbox, use a ruler to draw a straight line crosswise through the center of the carton (as shown). Then measure in 1.5" from each side, and draw two lines lengthwise. Measure 1.5" from the bottom and top of the carton and draw a line crosswise to create two rectangles.
  5. Step 4Cut out the rectangles, and cut along the center line crosswise. Discard the cardboard rectangles and then cut along the seams to create the tall ends of your toolbox. Once you have created your ends, trim the tops so that they are the same length.
  6. Use a red marker to draw long squiggly lines on the red construction paper, creating a wood grain pattern. Tear the red construction paper into long strips.
  7. Step 7Spread Mod Podge on the outside of the milk carton, and attach strips of paper. As you work, spread layers of Mod Podge over the paper strips. This will make the paper water-resistant. Let dry completely.
  8. Use red tape to seal the edges of the carton and cover imperfections. Use red tape to cover the unsharpened pencil -- this will be the handle of the toolbox.
  9. Step 6Make holes in the tall sides of the carton using a hole-punch. You will insert your handle into the two holes. Use red self-adhesive craft foam to make the bolts that hold the handle in place.
  10. Finish your planter with a yellow craft foam label. Write your child's name on the label.
  11. Place stones in the bottom of the planter for drainage and top with soil. Now you're ready to plant seeds or plants!

  4. For the backdrop, cut out all the way around the image, being careful to leave in the rudder, the masthead and the mountain top.
  5. Fold at the blue dotted lines and the tan dotted lines to create a contour, then tape or glue the triangles sticking out from the back on either side to hold the shape in place.

Craft Time: Sofia 3D Papercraft

Download Disney Sofia The First 3D Papercraft Template

How to make it

  1. Print out your princess on regular paper or cardstock and cut out the pieces.  Do not cut along the dashed lines -- this is where you will fold the paper.
  2. Line up Sofia’s back with her torso and glue them together so the design is two-sided.  After the glue has dried, fold the bottom part of her torso toward you along the purple dashed line. Then, fold her face away from you along the dashed line across her shoulders.
  3. Take Sofia’s chest piece and fold the paper at the dashed lines away from you. Glue the A and B tabs to the back, white side of her chest. Glue the C, D, E, F, and G tabs on her chest to the corresponding C, D, E, F, and G areas on her torso. You may need to use a pen or pencil inside her chest area to position the tabs just right.
  4. For Sofia’s skirt, fold the paper at the dashed lines away from you. Starting from left to right with the purple side of the skirt facing you, glue each J tab to the back of the skirt piece next to it to create pleats. Complete the shape of the skirt with the K tabs.
  5. Attach Sofia’s completed torso to her skirt by gluing the white side of the tabs at her waist to the top of the skirt over the areas labeled L and M.
  6. Fold each arm along the center dashed line and secure with glue so the design is two-sided. Make sure they are lined up before the glue dries. Attach the arms to the sides of the body by gluing the H and I tabs to the corresponding H and I areas on the chest piece.
