“Mary Poppins Returns” To Be Released December 25, 2018 with Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins

EMILY BLUNT AND LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA TO STAR IN
“MARY POPPINS RETURNS,” THE SEQUEL TO THE STUDIO’S 1964 CLASSIC,
DIRECTED BY ROB MARSHALL

“Mary Poppins Returns” To Be Released December 25, 2018

BURBANK, Calif. (May 31, 2016) – Golden Globe Award® winner Emily Blunt (“Into the Woods,” the upcoming “Girl on the Train”) and Emmy®, GRAMMY®, Tony Award® and Pulitzer Prize winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton,” “In the Heights”) are set to star in “Mary Poppins Returns,” a sequel to the studio’s 1964 classic, “Mary Poppins,” which will be released on December 25, 2018.

Reuniting the director and producing team behind Disney’s hit film musical “Into the Woods,” the film will be directed by Oscar® nominee, Emmy® and DGA Award winner Rob Marshall and produced by Marshall, Emmy winner and Golden Globe® nominee John DeLuca and Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award® nominee and Golden Globe winner Marc Platt. The screenplay will be written by Oscar nominee David Magee based on The Mary Poppins Stories by P.L. Travers, with Oscar nominee and Tony Award winner Marc Shaiman composing an all-new score and Shaiman and Emmy nominee and Tony Award winner Scott Wittman writing original songs.

Blunt has been cast as Mary Poppins and Miranda will play a new character, a street lamplighter named Jack. Drawing from the wealth of material in P.L. Travers’ seven additional novels, the story will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written) and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

“I am truly humbled and honored to be asked by Disney to bring P.L. Travers’ further adventures to the screen. The iconic original film means so much to me personally, and I look forward to creating an original movie musical that can bring Mary Poppins, and her message that childlike wonder can be found in even the most challenging of times, to a whole new generation,” says Marshall.

P.L. Travers introduced the world to the no-nonsense nanny in her 1934 book “Mary Poppins,” which Disney adapted for the screen and released in August, 1964. The film, which was directed by Robert Stevenson and starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, won five Academy Awards®, including Best Actress for Andrews. However, the subsequent adventures of Mary Poppins remained only on the pages of P.L. Travers’ seven additional books, which she published between 1935 and 1988.

Square One Pizza Cafe in Irvine Brings Fresh Ingredients to Pizzas, Pastas and More

I was invited to check out Square One Pizza Cafe in Irvine along with friends and team members Marco and David. Marco and David are also part of the team who built a recreation of the famous Pizza Planet Truck from Toy Story. I thought it would be cool to have them bring the Pizza Planet Truck here as well. Above are the awesome owners of Square One Pizza Cafe, Kyle and Liz Gillies with the Pizza Planet Truck. I love that Kyle covered up the Pizza Planet logo with their logo!

The restaurant is informal and casual. It's the perfect place to stop in for a lunch or dinner. You simply step up to the counter and order and your food is brought to your table. Service is super friendly and you can tell the employees take pride in their job.

Did someone say salad? I love a good salad and we tried two of them. You can never go wrong with a classic Caesar salad. Crisp and refreshing and you can really taste those anchovies in the dressing.

The mixed greens with roasted vegetable salad is my new favorite salad. The roasted vegetables blend perfectly with the fresh greens. Make sure you get it with the balsamic vinaigrette for a fantastic combination of flavors.

The star of this amazing meatball sub is the house-made meatballs. So many places do meatballs but sometimes they are almost burnt on the outside or not cooked all the way through. These meatballs are perfectly cooked all the way through and still moist and flavorful. The rich marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese are equally as good as the soft baguette. Do not pass up on the meatball sub.

We also ordered the baked penne pasta. A wonderful combination of soft penne pasta, tomato cream sauce, fennel sausage and peas. You are going to love the perfectly cooked pasta with the creamy sauce, the sweet fennel sausage and the peas. Plus, you can also get pasta that is gluten-free.

Now we get to the pizza. As you can see all the pizza's are square, hence the name of the restaurant. You can order the pizza 50/50 so you can get to eat try two pizzas. We combined The McTernan which combines tomato puree, sweet fennel sausage, pepperoni, fresh basil and fresh mozzarella cheese. The other half of the pizza is the Charred Steak which blends marinated steak, roasted corn, roasted red peppers, red onions, manchego cheese and topped with sour cream and cilantro.

This is a great pie. It's thin crust pizza, almost flatbread like. The thin crust is sturdy and crisp. I'm a fold kind of guy when it comes to pizza and this is the perfect pizza to fold a slice and eat. I loved the McTernan with the slightly spicy sausage and pepperoni. But I would have to say that the Charred Steak completely won me over with the perfectly tender and flavorful steak. Combine that with the flavors of the sweet corn and fresh vegetables made for a refreshingly hearty pizza. I cannot wait to come back and try more of their creations.

For dessert we decided upon the midnight layer cake. This is house-made with a toasted pecan crust, chocolate ganache and chocolate espresso cream with bourbon caramel. If you love dessert and are a chocolate fan, then you owe it to yourself to try this dessert. It's moist and full of amazing chocolate flavor. It's almost pudding like a solid pecan crust. A dessert that is almost too good to share.

The lunch experience was a fantastic one. Everything we tried was fantastic. The freshness of the ingredients really shine. The extra ingredient here is love from Chef Kyle and his passion for making great food, using fresh ingredients and making sure that no one leaves hungry. If homemade, fresh pastas, pizzas, subs, salads and desserts are your thing in a casual friendly environment with friendly guest service then look no further than Square One Pizza Cafe.

Sasaki Time Movie Review: Alice Through The Looking Glass

It's time to travel back to Underland. Alice goes through the looking glass this time to return to save her friend The Mad Hatter. Visually the film is spectacular and watching it in IMAX 3D is a must!

We being aboard Alice's father's ship The Wonder, under attack by pirates. Now returning home to London she finds her old fiance wanting to take back her father's ship by threatening to take over the family home. Alice is diagnosed with hysteria and ends up in a mental institution. She longs for a return to Underland.

Absolem (an all too short role voiced by the late Alan Rickman) is seeking Alice out and she gets her return to Underland. She discovers her friend The Mad Hatter is suffering from depression as no one believes him when he feels that his family is still alive. Alice wants to help her friend and tries to find Time (played to perfection by Sacha Baron Cohen) to help her.

Time is not willing to help her. He does tell her that one cannot change the past but hopefully one can learn from it. This leads to Alice stealing an item to help her travel back in time in hopes of saving The Mad Hatter. Alcie then does learn that waht Time said was true, she cannot change the past is she is learning from it and that is what will eventually lead her to save her best friend.

Through Alice's time travel we get some great backstory of the characters we have come to know since the first movie. In particular, we learn about the relationship between the Queen of Hearts and her sister, the White Queen. We learn how the Queen of Hearts got her huge head and her even worse personality. So, in a way, we get an origin story and see how all the characters came to be who they are now.

In the end, does Alice save her friend and the rest of Underland? Do the lessons she learns through time travel come to play out in the real world? Discover these answers and more to this heartfelt adventure for the entire family to enjoy when Alice Through The Looking Glass opens in theaters on May 27th!

Sasaki Time's Blu-Ray Review: Disney's The Finest Hours

The year is 1952, during one of the biggest storms off the coast of Massachusetts, the oil tanker Pendleton is split in half. With another oil tanker having already suffered a similar fate and undergoing a major rescue operation, the Pendleton sits alone with no radio communication and no commanding officers. A small U.S. Coast Guard boat is dispatched to find the Pendleton. But this small crew and smaller boat loses its compass and has no way of knowing if they are heading towards the tanker or not.

Leading up to this epic rescue is a love story between Coast Guard sailor Bernie Webber (Chris Pine) and Miriam (Holliday Grainger). This helps add to the tension and drama as Bernie leads his team out into the storm.

Meanwhile aboard the Pendleton, chief engineer Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck) unwillingly takes command of the remaining crew. The crew is made up of all types of sailors with every personality type imaginable. This makes for some very tense moments in an already horrible situation. And the camera work here as we swoop up and down the levels of the ship really bring the ship to life.

The cast is strong. Chris Pine plays Bernie Webber, a man who follows the rules. Holliday Grainger plays Webber's fiancee Miriam, a woman who does not abide by the rules of gender. She is proactive

and has much guts as any of the men in the movie. But Affleck is the stand out here. He takes a man of very few words into the most compelling character here. He quietly becomes the leader when he has no desire to be in charge and uses his knowledge of the ship and the currents to help save him and the remaining men on the ship. The quiet hero who steps up when no one else does or no one really knows what to do.

This man versus nature film will keep you on the edge of your seat.  You feel the hopelessness of the men on the tanker as it appears they have no hope to survive. And you feel the pain of the small Coast Guard crew on their small boat as they head towards certain death to do their job of helping others out at sea. This is one forgotten rescue story that will now never be forgotten.

Video Quality

The 1080p video transfer is solid for a film that mostly takes place in very dark conditions. You get mostly stormy nighttime scenes and low light ship interiors. Solid details on clothing textures, skin, weathered ships and more. Another solid presentation from Disney.

Audio Quality

The 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio is huge! The power of the waves in the storm surround you as the bass pounds you. Inside the ship you hear every rattle, creak, yell as if you were trapped in the ship itself. Another outstanding effort from Disney.

Bonus Material

There are several bonus features and a Disney digital copy is included with purchase.

  • Against All Odds: The Bernie Webber Story (1080p, 14:10): This is a wonderful feature with the main film crew and some of the residents of Chatham talking about the town history and some of the actual details behind the event, with an emphasis on Bernie Weber's heroics.
  • Deleted Scenes (1080p): There are two deleted scenes here. A Desperate Idea (2:34) and The Story of How They Met (1:53).
  • Brotherhood (1080p, 1:49): A short feature of how well the cast got along as well as Chris Pine's leadership on the set.
  • Two Crews (1080p, 2:02): Another short feature showing the parallel stories of Weber's crew and the survivors on the tanker.
  • What Is Your Finest Hour? (1080p, 1:02): A real member of the Coast Guard discussing some of the heroics.
  • The Finest Inspiration: The U.S. Coast Guard (1080p, 1:42): A quick look at the modern Coast Guard's missions and abilities.

An exciting, edge of your seat movie on a blu-ray with Disney's high standard for both video as well as audio presentations. The bonus material could have been longer but provide some good value in a blu-ray that I definitely recommend.

SIA DIVES IN WITH FINDING DORY, SINGING "UNFORGETTABLE" END-CREDIT SONG

BURBANK, Calif. (Friday, May 20, 2016) -- Singer-songwriter Sia is on board Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory,” performing the film’s end-credit song, “Unforgettable.” American songwriter Irving Gordon wrote the song in 1951, and in 1992 won a Grammy® for it when Natalie Cole included the tribute to her late father on her album of duets. “Unforgettable” remains revered worldwide today.

Five-time Grammy® nominee Sia, who announced this week her 22-city North American “Nostalgic for the Present” tour, performs the song for the first time on today’s “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” DeGeneres, coincidentally, is the voice of the much beloved and forever forgetful blue tang Dory.

“Dory's story makes me teary,” said Sia. “When Ellen asked me, I couldn't refuse!”

“Finding Dory” director Andrew Stanton has long been a fan of the native Australian performer. “In the same way Robbie Williams did his own unique twist on a classic song for ‘Finding Nemo,’ Sia captures the soulful truth of the Nat King Cole classic ‘Unforgettable,’ and makes it all her own,” said Stanton. “They are a perfect complement to one another, just like the two films.

“We couldn’t be happier, and are really hoping to get tickets to her October show at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.,” the director continued. “Just throwin’ it out there.”

The “Finding Dory” soundtrack, featuring Thomas Newman’s score and Sia’s rendition of “Unforgettable,” will be available from Walt Disney Records on June 17, 2016, wherever music is sold. Rated PG, “Finding Dory” opens nationwide the same day.

Sasaki Time Restaurant Review: Classic Afternoon Tea at Steakhouse 55

For Dapper Day, Kristen, Kevin and I indulged in a Classic Afternoon Tea at Steakhouse 55. The tea experience is only available Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12noon to 3pm. I made reservations for us as soon as I could and figured this would be a wonderful experience for Dapper Day.

There are several menu options and your server will be more than happy to go through them with you. All of the options include unlimited tea, which you can have either iced or hot. Plus, all the sandwiches can be substituted for other options on the menu.

The tea party options are as follows:
  • Classic Afternoon Tea ($50 per person) –  Traditional scones, tea sandwiches, desserts
  • Premium Afternoon Tea ($65 per person) – Sparkling wine, Traditional scones, Salad, Tea Sandwiches, Dessert, and Farewell Truffles
  • Kid’s Tea Party ($35 per person) – Chocolate Chip scones, tea sandwiches, desserts

I went with the Redbush Caramel Velvet. It was a warm day so I wanted the iced version.

But the server also suggested getting it hot as well. I'm so glad that he did because I loved having both options. You are also given lemon wedges, honey and some sugar sticks to help change the change the tea's flavor profiles.

We decided to go with the Classic Tea Party. We started with the scones that come nice and warm. You get Devonshire Cream and lemon curd to spread on them. So delicious and a perfect way to start our meal.

Next, we made out way through the various sandwiches. You get an heirloom tomato and mozarella, cage free deviled egg, salmon gravalax and a cucumber & watercress. All light and refreshing and absolutely delicious.

Now for the dessert round you get a chocolate covered strawberry, a fruit tart and several macarons. All are fantastic, especially the fruit tart.

Cheers from all of us! We had a wonderful afternoon of tea, food and conversation. A perfect way to enjoy the afternoon and really take time to slow down and enjoy time with great friends.

Make your reservations soon and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with friends and experience some wonderful new teas. To make reservations use the link below:

First Look at DC Universe: The Exhibit featuring Costumes from Suicide Squad and More!

Opening on May 24th, 2016, DC Universe: The Exhibit will be part of the famous Warner Bros. Studio Tour. Come with me and get your first look at some of the amazing costumes and props you will see here! But first I had to stop and see if the Warner Brothers and my favorite Warner sister were here at the famous water tower. Sadly none of them were to be found.

Entering DC Universe: The Exhibit you are greeted by the Justice League and you will find their first comic books below the stunning artwork.

One of things I really enjoyed was that the mannequins look like their movie screen counterparts!

Hmmm why does Clark always leave his glasses behind when superman is here?

Lexcorp was kind enough to bring this amazing and surprisingly heavy piece of kryptonite.
