OC Restaurant Week 2013: Div Bar (dinner)

My friend Brian and I went to check out Div Bar in Newport Beach!
I just thought that Newport Beach and BBQ were two things that would never go together! I was glad to be proven wrong!
Of course we were here for OC Restaurant Week! Looks like a great selection for $20!
Dinner started with a very large portion of crispy calamari tossed in a chili lime sauce. Just perfectly cooked and battered calamari! The calamari was slightly rubbery as it should be. I loved the subtle flavor of the chili lime sauce! Super addicting and I would gladly order this again! There was so much that I took the rest of it home with me!
My friend Brian went with the broasted chicken as his entree. Four large pieces of juicy chicken, smashed potatoes and a slice of jalapeno cornbread! He is a big fan of broasted chicken and made short work of this!
I went with the smoked meat combination! The brisket was crispy on the edges but soft and juicy the rest of the way! The ribs were meaty and flavorful! I didn't even make use of the BBQ sauces that were provided! The Asian slaw was another winner! Can someone get me the recipe for the dressing? And I loved the jalapeno cornbread. It was sweet but had a nice kick to it!

I couldn't even finish my plate! I took home some brisket and ribs and the cornbread because I wanted to save room for dessert!
And what an awesome dessert this was! I am a big fan of simple is best and this just proved my point! The chocolate chip cookie is baked in a cast iron skillet and served immediately with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream! Just a perfect way to end the evening! It reminded me of coming home from elementary school and my mom taking freshly made chocolate chip cookies out of the oven. It was that same type of flashback as in Ratatouille. How simple things remind us of home and why we love to eat!

I am a new fan of Div Bar and looking forward to returning! Phenominal customer service all the way around! From the valet (they have super limited parking so it's valet only), to the hostesses, to the wait staff, everyone was warm and friendly. I will be back!

DANE COOK TAPPED TO VOICE DUSTY IN DISNEY'S PLANES

DANE COOK TAPPED TO VOICE DUSTY IN “DISNEY’S PLANES”
High-Flying Animated Comedy Adventure Soars into Theaters August 9, 2013

BURBANK, Calif. (February 28, 2013) – Dane Cook has been tapped to voice the lead character Dusty, a plane with high hopes in “Disney’s Planes.” Inspired by the world of “Cars” and directed by Disneytoon Studios veteran and aviation enthusiast Klay Hall (“King of the Hill,” “The Simpsons”), “Disney’s Planes” is an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure about Dusty’s dream of competing as a high-flying air racer—and his decidedly unfortunate fear of heights. The film takes off in theaters in 3D on Aug. 9, 2013.

“Dane Cook brings unmatched charisma and brilliant comedic timing and instincts to the character,” said Hall. “He gives Dusty a great edge.”
Cook is well known for his appearances on Comedy Central and HBO specials, and for his successful comedy albums. He recently guest starred on “Louie” opposite Louie C.K., and his film credits include starring roles in a host of films, including “My Best Friend’s Girl” opposite Kate Hudson, “Dan In Real Life” opposite Steve Carell, and “Mr. Brooks” opposite Kevin Costner. The actor/comedian just signed a deal with NBC Entertainment and Universal Television to develop a new project starring Cook.

The all-new story offers an exciting cast of characters and centers on Dusty’s high-flying dream. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing, so he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar. The film is produced by Traci Balthazor-Flynn and executive produced by John Lasseter. OC Restaurant Week 2013: Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour Restaurant! (Lunch)

My friend Brian and I went for lunch at Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour Restaurant for their OC Restaurant Week menu.
It feels like we have stepped back into time or Main Street USA at Disneyland!
I love that the menu looks like a newspaper!
Brian is a big chocolate fan and went with the chocolate shake!
With today being National Strawberry Day, I went with a strawberry shake!
Brian went with the All-American Burger! This is Farrell’s old–fashioned burger, with crisp lettuce, pickle, red onion and tomato!
I chose the Talk of The Town! This is their most popular burger – the bacon makes the difference! With melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and Farrell’s sauce.Just a great burger with thick cut bacon and a juicy patty!

OC Restaurant Week 2013: Quinn's Old Town Grill!

Tonight, my friend Kevin and I went to Quinn's Old Town Grill in Tustin to experience their OC Restaurant Week menu.
This was our first time here and I was already at home with the ambiance and warm and friendly service!
And this is the menu we were here for! A three course dinner for $20!

We noticed that the menu was slightly different from what was on the website. For instance, the first entree was listed as a prime "baseball" steak but here it is a salisbury steak. Also, the fish and chips were listed as halibut, but as you can see on the menu it is Alaskan cod. We were informed that halibut wasn't in season but would be in April. We did not ask about the steak.
The appetizer was a course of shrimp and oysters. Both were flavorful and delicious! This meal was off to a great start!
Kevin went with the Alaskan Cod Fish and Chips! The fish was light and flaky with a great crispy batter! The cole slaw was well balanced! He cleaned his plate so he obviously enjoyed it!
I went with the corned beef and cabbage. This plate came out steaming hot! Everything was fantastic! The cabbage was flavorful as were the carrots and green beans. The carrots had a great sweetness to them. The potatoes were great as well. But the corned beef was amazing! It was almost melt in your mouth soft! The mustard sauce was the icing on the cake! Just a fantastic dish! I would gladly order this again!
For dessert we had the warm shamrock brownie a la mode! I was so full but I had to try to at least eat part of this delicious looking dessert! I loved that the brownie was actually made up of smaller brownie squares! They were warm and not overly sweet! I think the best thing about this dessert was that it was so simple. Just ice cream, brownies, walnuts, chocolate syrup and caramel sauce all coming together to make a more than satisfying end to this great meal!
Not included in this meal, but I wanted to show you photos of the drinks we got. Kevin got an Irish Car bomb! It was his first and he polished it off in no time at all!
I went with my favorite Irish cider, Magners! Think of an apple cider with a good kick to it and you have Magners!
I had to include this somewhere in the review! On Wednesdays they have a magician who comes out and this is one of his tricks! Not that I needed a reason to go back but I will go back on a Wednesday for my next visit!
